[W:#690]McCarthy falls short in first vote for House speaker

What a stupid rule. McCarthy gets 201 votes to 20 and he's blocked. He gets 10X the support of the others & still isn't
elected. While McConnell becomes Republican senate leader by a vote of 37 to 10 only 4X more than competition & is praised
as winning by a landslide as Republican leader in the Senate. The house rule is not logical.
the greatest landslide of all times in presidendial elections was Nixon's 18 million vote landslide in 1972. Mssachusetts was the only state he lost
but he received only 61% of the votes. McCarthy picks off 91% of the votes for his office & is considered the loser, this is a mindboggling
event!
I agree. However, the Constitution is unequivocal: "The House of Representatives shall chuse [sic] their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment."

It doesn't say "the majority party shall choose," because the Founders never envisioned political parties playing such a key role in our democracy.

This is just another example of how being tied down to the "original intent" of the Founders hamstrings us.

Hakeem Jeffries has tallied more votes than anyone else in each and every round, yet you want to twist the rules to suit your preferences.
I'm not a McCarthy fan, but most conservatives favor him. In 2015 the same freedom caucus
blocked McCarthy & supported Paul Ryan who was more opposed to the Freedom caucus
policy concerns than McCarthy was. When they found that out they dumped Ryan.

I agree with the Freedom Caucus Members most of the time but in voting for the
Republican leaders historically they lack wisdom.

Indeed. At the time of the forming of the 1st Congress, neither the President nor members of Congress belonged to any substantive national political parties. But, parties soon formed afterward. In his Farewell Address, President Washington warned against the dangers of the rise of political parties!

If there were no parties, as in the first Congress and as instated by our founders, Jeffries would be the Speaker.

C'mon!

'in the first Congress and as instated by our founders, Jeffries would be the Speaker.' What?

Jeffries could not have been the speaker 'in the first Congress and as instated by our founders' as he would not have been citizen

IF you are black and I believe you are based on your postings, don't you think it's just a tad condescending and elitist to assert that black people need "equity" (think set-asides, affirmative action) because...racism, slavery, Jim Crow....when you proved that blacks do NOT need those things to excel.
Cut the bullshit.... You are the one posted YOUR bullshit comment:
  • I quote you: > Society keeps minorities down and dumb by using equity.
I never even responded to that aspect of your commentary.

______________
It's not my problem that you are too biased bigoted and racist based illiterate to comprehend that racism was and is barbaric, you probably think it was ok, for white people to have done what they did regarding slavery and you likely thing the vile of segregation was just fine with you, and you like think even after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that it was ok for white people to continue discrimination. If you did not think that way, you'd understand what and why "Affirmative Actions was established", since you seem not to understanding, I will tell you. It's because SOME white people were and some still are driven and obsessed with being racially discriminating. As well as some systems, business, organizations and segments of industry are still hung up in being discriminating and created discriminatory variations and levels of glass ceilings.

There is not a black person that has asked you for a damn thing... other than for you to make the choice to stop being a race bigot. and you find that too difficult to do. It's overtly obvious in your posting since I've seen your commentary on this site. Likely at your age, there is very slim possibility that you'd ever learn to be any different.

While you are talking about what blacks need to succeed, you purposely void and blind your mind to the reality of the GENERATIONALLY poor whites whom some will continue to be poor and destitute for decades to come, because many bigoted white won't do a damn thing to help them. They've gotten more help by the Civil Right Legislation and Presidents such as JFK, LBJ, Clinton, Obama and Biden, than any right wing Republican President has ever done to help society that benefits working class and dire poor Americans.

You NEVER make any acknowledgment that I speak more about what can and what will benefit poor whites the same as what will benefit non white working class and poor, and I acknowledge the needs of poor whites the same as I acknowledge what benefits minorities and woman of the working class more than any of the white people on this entire forum.

I'm aware enough to know that America had many forms of "Segregation" from the Extreme Brutal Savage form to varying Repressive, Suppressive and Depressive Forms.... that includes not only Racial, but Ethnic, Sexual Identity, Country of Origin and Monetary....

But in your small closed mind all you can do is panic, when you see the words "white people" and it not followed up by patronizing flattery.

You accept those Barbaric Nuts on the Republican House who keep pushing for their "destroy American Democracy" aims and wants, as a means to get their vote for a Speaker... because your commentary has backed that anti American madness, throughout your site posting. To me, they are nothing but bigoted white nationalist who are insurrection supporting seditious and subversive anti democracy types, that try every means to collective promote treasonous agenda upon and against American Democracy.

Oh no! Steve Kornacky at MSNBC has set-up an election-night type leaderboard, and is doing election analysis! This is becoming an event!
Kornacky is very entertaining.
I thought I saw him doing some football analysis the other day.

You hate America, do you ever say a good word about the major American cities or major states like New York or California? They are the areas that produce the most for the US economy, those regions tax base ensure the U.S. can support the US military, those regions make the U.S. the geopolitical power it is.

Iowa or Idaho provides nearly nothing to support America
I mean, that's just a dumb comment. How is Detroit or Chicago doing? Do you ever call out the left for ruining formerly great places? Nope!

Yes he is entertaining. But what I find "entertaining" here, is MSNBC has gone into election night coverage mode - including Steve at the big-board! It's pretty funny, to be honest.

To equate to what amounts to trespassing on 1-6 (people waved in, only a few did any real damage, no guns, no plan) to the riots is insane. The same FBI that set up Trump for Russian Collusion, spied on ordinary citizens via Twitter, set up a Truth Council now known as CISA, and speaks of conservatives as Walmarters needs to be reigned in and the FBI people who hate whitey need to go.
You have serious issue.... but I'm sure you won't check with Medicare to see if they provide treatment for it.

Jefferies 212 (again,) McCarthy 201, Donalds 20, 1 voted present.

Off to more backroom deals to basically rewrite the function of the House to favor a handful of MAGA Republican lunatics?

Trumplicans are making it abundantly clear they can't be trusted to organize and run a two car parade, let alone the federal government.

This has got to be a waking stress dream for McCarthy.

It's clear that McCarthy has no plan to get out of this. He's stuck demanding ballot after ballot or to just drop out of the running. He's in talks with Democrats to get their help, and I have a very hard time seeing that working out.
If they demand a power sharing agreement on committees the Dems should take that deal and drag him over the finish line.

But he has to be the one to go to them for help… if they offer it then it would be very dumb of them.

CSPAN just reported that Buck (R-CO) - who voted for McCarthy each of the first five rounds - has said that his vote #5 would be his last vote for McCarthy.

If true, another McCarthy vote bites the dust. I have to imagine several others have to at least be feeling the same way.
