Watched CBS 60 Minutes on the weekend on this subject. One of the factoids is that seniors are now more likely to be ripped off online/by phone than in a home burglary.

Does a debit card being hacked count? Someone charged more than $750 over the July 4th holiday in 2023. I was notified by the bank and locked my card.

I got scammed by a phone company a long time ago. I can't remember all of the details but they made it out that I would still have the same carrier but when I got the bill it was a different carrier. I think that scam had a name to it but I can't recall the name of that scam. After I got the bill and realized that it was a different carrier I immediately called my original carrier. After talking to the original carrier it was made known to me that the scam company had adopted my phone number that I had for over 20 years and they now owned it. I got my original service back but I had to pick a different phone number.

I have pretty much have one rule. I don't buy anything that I'm not looking for.

Yes.

My experiences are credit card fraud, twice. Visa caught it both times but I'm extra careful these days.
I got a text from the bank and then a email from VISA asking if I made there large online purchases. I have a $200 limit for those notifications.

At the end of my moms life she would happy tell anyone her personal and even financial information if they spoke English we and were polite to her over the phone. I had to take the phone away from her multiple times because she was telling telemarketers her bank balance, birthday and account numbers. She had no concept that they were scammers.

Sadly this is true

I live in the neighborhood i grew up in and there is a mix of young and old people here
I was their paperboy when i was 4 foot tall with a one foot fro so they look to me for help and support from time to time lol

if you come to my neighborhood, you'll see many wifi names as <nameNET> for example mine would be AgentJNET because is set them all up lol

anyway, yes I've been asked more than once about emails and phone calls and it break my heart. Harry was one that got dubbed off and IRS email :(

old people tend to have a lot of faith in certain thing and see email as MAIL, which was very official for them so they have this trust about it

Once someone started up a bank account in my name and transferred everything.

It was resolved in a couple of days and i got everything back.

Never found how it happened, once i got my money back i didn't really care.

The company I consult for uses an IT management firm that sends us all fake emails to test whether we'll click on links.

The emails are sneaky and they spoof clients and vendors, and even each other.

Despite all the training several managers (out of about 30) click on the link every time.

Only seniors, many like Joe Biden, those who have lost most of their marbles, would be victims of cyber/phone crimes.

I think I had a similar experience though I'm still not exactly sure how. I had multiple attempts at breaking into my Roth IRA. The first time, I shrugged it off as some sort of glitch, but then there was a 2nd and a 3rd. I decided to change my password to a lengthier one that's harder to crack and still occasionally change it up. They weren't successful fortunately, but I shudder to think at what could have happened had I not been alerted, as I don't always watch my accounts from day to day.

I've had my debit card charged twice. One time I suspect it was some local bum that either used a credit card skimmer at a gas pump, or it might have been someone at a restaurant who just used my card at a place that didn't do their due diligence. The other time it appeared to be an online hacking or the result of a data breach, as the charges were from Dubai. Fortunately able to recoup my $ both times.

What a trashy response...to be expected given the source I suppose.
You aren't just blaming the victims, you blame them AND mock them.

Trump's the perfect candidate for you. Trashy, blames victims, lies and is a complete idiot.

not shocking but wow thats classy
your claim is factually wrong in multiple ways, if you disagree then by all means simply back up your claim and prove it, thanks

Oh, this is très riche coming from you.

I don't mock the victims. You are using them as your pawns to defend Biden.

Joe Biden is losing his marbles; his senility is catching up with him. Not a pretty sight for Americans to witness. It's embarrassing. Look at the polls. As a result, young voters are turning against him.

It's a fact that scammers take advantage of those with his type of mindset. You can't deny it so you pretend to be a poor victim. Your card is no good here.

Yes indeed.

A good friend's father went down the rabbit hole of buying gift cards. They had him running all over town...he finally called one of his children for help thankfully.

Yes, I've had identify theft at least twice, but I've been wise to this stuff since middle school. People should know that when all those big companies get hacked, it's all your personal data.

They don't need to phone scam you to engage in cyber crimes against you. But some morons don't know that, so I'm noting it here for them.

No, because there really isn't much you can do to prevent that. It's become pretty standard fare for my bank to catch a fraudulent charge and send me a new card. I don't mean that it happens every year, but it happens. The way I read the thread is whether you've been the victim of fraud in which you had anything to do with it. As in, unwittingly, you've played into a scam artist's ploy.

Oh this is très riche coming from you. Joe Biden is losing his marbles.

You don't even seem to understand that your post being deplorable and stupid, had nothing to do with Biden.

Your trashy post gets called out, and your response is "nuh uh, you're a doody head".

Your posts aren't serious.

You brought up Biden, and I didn't even mention Biden.... don't post stupid lies, and you mocked people who are victims, literally:

So we have:
"Nuh uh, you're the doody-head"
followed by:
"I know you are but what am I"

Like I wrote. Not serious.

Credit card once after ordering some flowers online. Discover called me for out of country transactions. They reissued a new card.

Well then, so sorry to hear you're constantly victimized by cyber/phone criminals.
I didn’t write that. Thanks for showing us your dismal trolling skills. Got anything on topic?

Probably not, huh? Lol
