The war has divided Israelis while the offensive threatens to ignite a wider conflict involving Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen that support the Palestinians.The deaths, destruction and displacement from the war are without precedent in the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he stressed in his conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday that he rejects Hamas demands for a cease-fire, Israeli forces’ withdrawal and the release of Palestinians held by Israel in exchange for the remaining hostages. He said that agreeing means another devastating Hamas attack “would only be a matter of time.”

Netanyahu also has rejected calls from U.S, its closest ally, for postwar plans that would include a path to Palestinian statehood. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the refusal to accept a two-state solution unacceptable.

Best I can tell, Hamas only wants a temporary cease fire.
 
Of course, one should never accept Hamas statistics without due skepticism.

But relatively neutral other sources do agree that thousands of civilians have died.

The IDF have been brutal in their response to the October 7 pogrom.

Those "neutral" sources predict that the current onslaught by the IDF will only engender more hatred toward Israel.

The United States has to have a very "muscular" talk with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

The suffering of Gazan civilians is simply horrific.

... maybe a grain of salt is justified, there, though it's certainly been many. HAMAS' strategy, after all, is to maximize civilian casualties precisely in order to manipulate people like the OP.

The greatest likelihood is that Israel will have a new government after the war. Right now the focus should be destroying Hamas.

The Joos must be a pretty terrible student. They have probably killed less "civilians" than Obama did in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other than babies how does the Hamas health agency know who is a civilian versus a coward fighter in no uniform?

Hamas is only part of the problem. Islam as a whole - not just Hamas or Hezbollah - is the problem. We are in a war of civilizations and Western countries just haven't admitted it yet.

Look, I agree.

The more details that come out from October 7th, the more I wish it was as simple as being able to do just that.

But guess what?

It’s not that simple.

I am firmly on the side of Israel and its people.

And without giving Hamas or its supporters any sympathy, I’m sorry, if we claim the mantle of the civilized world, I don’t support the Israeli government.

Killing overwhelmingly innocent people in pursuit of vengeance and justice, cutting off water, food and medical supplies to overwhelming innocent people in pursuit of vengeance and justice is not right and it’s never going to be right.

This war is being conducted with less than zero regard for innocent people.

It’s a shitty situation and I wish it was a simple thing of save all the hostages and slaughter every single Hamas member, but it’s not and we cannot lose our humanity to such an extent that believing that it’s wrong to cut off food and water to children and having an issue with the collateral damage the bombing has incurred to the extent that has happened is an attack on Israel.
