To be clear, the thread title is something I do not believe to be truthful or factual whatsoever. The words in the thread title are words I saw a theist attribute categorically to 'all' atheists in another thread. I 'personally' find those words to be moronic and illogical, as atheists reject 'all' God claims. So my question to other atheists here at DP is "Do you consider yourself to "be your own God"?

Mmmmm...no. No I do not.

Atheism is intertwined with narcissism. They reject the greater immaterial authority for worldly and individual authority. It's why you see personality cults for Stalin and Mao.

None of that applies to me, @TypicalRussian. I am an atheist for one reason only. That reason being I reject all God claims due to lack of proof any Gods exist. And if I am a narcissist, why is family and philanthropy ( helping out the less fortunate ) so important to me? And why did I adopt two children my wife and I are raising at the age of 69, because those children would have been aborted, had we not adopted those children? Please tell the class as to how any of those character traits are "narcissistic."

Nope, but one does not need to believe in any God (sky daddy?) to live by a moral code.

Nonsense - one need not believe in any God to avoid being a narcissist and/or tyrant.

Of course not. It take a brainwashed nitwit to think that everyone needs a "God" in their life to get by.

Sounds a wee bit like narcissism to me...

No, it is not. Another garbage claim by a believer in a non existent authority. There is no authority except that which is established by human beings, and even that is always subject to change.

As to the OP, I have heard that silly statement made before. It is made by those who think that all human beings necessarily make something their god. It is complete nonsense that only superstitious believers think is true.

That definition describes your god.

Being an atheist does not prevent someone from caring about more than just themselves. Believing ib god does not prevent narcissism,
That is NOT what you said the definition was...nice try, though...

You don't understand that I was reacting to your post, which claimed that someone else's post sounded like narcissism. I was saying it is also narcissistic to believe that god has singled you out for special treatment.

Yes, D-David. To be fair, I've head the claim in the thread title from more than one theist also, for clarification purposes.

lol...

"Do you consider yourself to "be your own God"?

No. I consider myself to be the master of my own destiny

But the statement in the OP is just ridiculous because it essentially sets the narrative that there is a god, it's just that Atheist reject it so they can be there own.

That being said, having the ability to turn water into wine would be very useful. 😁

Yes, imagining that there is an all powerful being who gives a crap about you is very narcissistic.

If you can turn wine into yellow water you are half way there.

I worded the thread title that way intentionally. It's actually a quote from a theist attributed to atheists, with the quotation marks left off for a specific reason. It's called a 'teaser' to draw attention to the thread in general.

There's as many varieties of atheists as there are varieties of deist. Me, for example- I think there's some kind of consciousness that had input in the birth of life but that consciousness not only doesn't participate in the lives that developed, it might not even exist anymore.
