I taught "accelerated reading" as it was called but that was long ago and the terminology may have changed -- I haven't looked it up for this post.
I'd think you might agree the "speed reading" you learned as a kid might be more reckless and sometimes off road than the more measured "accelerated reading" I taught many moons ago. That is, reading in phrases and clauses and all of that, picturing eventually some whole sentences.
I learned to type 300 words a minute with 3 errors max when I was a teen and it's the most practical skill lessons I ever had. It paid off in many jobs I had that involved writing. The electric typewriter threw me off at first but I came along just fine.

I was used to resting my fingers slightly on the standard typewriter keys that on the newfangled electric one set off a sudden burst of nonsense.
Nonsense, yeah, sort of like my posts, I know. As with you, I attribute it to advanced age, pushing 80 as I am. Glory be to VA meds.
