[W:1296] PUTIN FEARS COUP Russian tanks in Moscow to ‘secure Kremlin’ as cowering Putin fears Wagner group are launching coup to overthrow him

Somebody just framed this in a way that simplifies what's happening right now: this is a gangster fight. All we can do is hope that whichever gangster wins is the saner one.
I don’t think that’s the case here.

Getting some "fleeing in a helicopter with bags of money" vibes here.

What's scarier than Puitin, is Yevgeny Prigozhin at the top
Though I don't think 50,000 is going to be enough to oust Putin.

It's a tense situation, yes.

Either way Putin is damaged politically. The Ukraine needs to take FULL advantage.

Actually, Prigozhin would withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine and engage in peace talks. That would be a start.

This guy says it well:

Gee, after years of being told that the West wants to carve the country up? After years of idiots in the West openly fantasizing about exactly that? Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

And in the middle of an all out civil war, the number of people actually able to stop such a step would be minimal.

Your own words betray you.

People not able to stop you? Well, that also means able to help you, right?, You think that starting a nuclear attack is done by just pushing a button that is there for anyone to push?

First of all, it takes two people at least to get it done and even then, they need the nuclear codes. This means that a lot more than 2 people are needed and even then, not only would they need to be in power but have others in-the-know about how to launch a nuclear war be in power as well. In addition, everyone knows that a nuclear war is destructive to all, including the people doing it.

So you are suggesting that in a civil war, a person (presently unknown) would be able to accomplish all of this, needing the help of a group of people (his own insurrectionists) that would have the knowledge and get the ability to pull this off? And then to finish it is, this group of people would all be so stupid as to put their own lives ((and their revolution) at stake by launching nuclear weapons at "ADDITIONAL" enemies (other than Russia itself) and fight not one war but two or three or more?

Wow, talk about crazy theories, this beats the one about extra-terrestrials are coming to take over the world.

Jeesus Christ!!!!!

You can knit your socks later.
No, I think he said he was rearranging his sock drawer.
If they were fighting Ukraine before, who is saying that they wouldn’t go back and pick up that fight.

I wondered about that, and I would not be the least bit surprised if there's hypocrisy in Prigozhin, but he has said that the war was unfounded, and only started for the profit. He contradicted the idea that Nazis were running Ukraine and denounced the war clearly.

But the possibility remains that he has some motivation to continue a war he has criticized. That would be hypocrisy, but so be it. My bet is that he will end the war if this topples Putin.

I hope you are right.

Well, this sounds like its warming up to be an exciting few days.

No Truth Social posts from Putin’s buddy?
I had wondered what Trump's reaction would if he were our president today? Would he send military aide to Russia? I'm sure he would be openly supportive of Putin, but then, if Putin turns out to be the failed-loser-dictator, Trump would quickly withdraw his support.

One of the Russian tanks miscalculated the width of the gate, this is what happened. :sneaky:

The mockery from you assholes is the push I needed to get off the computer and do the shit I need to do.

Caesar crossed the Rubicon with a smaller force. "Rome" consisted of much greater numbers but fear and confusion is what led to Caesar's eventual success.

I like that analogy, Infinite Chaos. I am also a fan of Roman history- Republican Rome, not Imperial Rome. Prigozhyn as Caesar and Putin as Pompey :)? Lovely. :)

There was also earlier Cornelius Sulla's march, or two on Rome, successfully against the forces of Gaius Marius; but that is a poorer analogy as Sulla represnted the Oligarchs of the time, and Marius the Populares. Prigozhyn definitely is making a play for the Populares against the Optimates in Moscow. Caesar was Populares against Pompey the Optimate.

But I had in mind more the 1961 attempted Putsch in France by the Foreign Legion Generals Challe and Salan against Gen de Gaulle. Wagner as French Foreign Legion. Challe and Salan as Prigozhyn.

If their coup is successful, they will have their hands full taking over Russia and won't have time for Ukraine. If their coup fails, then their leader will be killed and the mercenaries may very well return to Ukraine where they will be paid to fight.

That is an encapsulation of the entire Russian effort

Wasn’t this the basis for the Frederick Forsythe novel?

Unsubstantiated from Twitter:

Been told by a Russian that has immigrated to the west and has no love for Putin that the above guy can't be trusted to tell the truth. In his words "he posts BS."

I’m sure the mis-information is flying around, right now.

Russia isn't so much a state as as it is a territory, control of which rival gangs are now vying.
