The National Security Council's top Ukraine expert told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that he tried to make changes to the White House's rough transcript of the July phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's President, including that Trump mentioned tapes of former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a source familiar with the matter. Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified that one example of his attempts to change the transcript was to include Trump telling Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky there were tapes of Biden, which The New York Times reported occurred where there's an ellipsis in the transcript that was released. The change was not made. The assertion that some portion of the conversation was replaced by an ellipsis contradicts the White House's statement in September that the ellipses in the transcript did not represent missing words or phrases. It also contradicts the President who has insisted the transcript the White House released was an exact depiction of the call, even though the memo itself describes it as rough. In a copy of Vindman's opening statement obtained by CNN ahead of his testimony, he says he reported his concerns about the call "internally to National Security officials in accordance with my decades of experience and training, sense of duty, and obligation to operate within the chain of command." "I am a patriot, and it is my sacred duty and honor to advance and defend OUR country, irrespective of party or politics," the statement said.

In the released transcript, the White House neglected to include a passage about Trump mentioning "Biden tapes" to Ukraine president Zelenskyy.

As for the omissions, that has been clear since the alleged transcript was released. The length of the call doesn't in any way line up with the amount of speaking the White House alleges took place.

Oh, I agree. But there is the fact that if the evidence is damning enough it puts them in the spot because there will be Republican voters that will say enough is enough and join in with the Dems it at least abstain from voting for trump it those that support him over the rule of law. I still believe there are good Republicans, I just think most have been shouted down. Also never forget that trump has attacked Republicans in the past and many hold a grudge that could turn on him if given the opportunity. But yes, I think it will come down to 2020 and the voters to resolve the problem once and for all.

There is no reason as yet to treat the transcript of the phone call as anything different than a self-serving autobiography. It's not a word-for-word transcribing from a recording. It may not even be close to one. We on the outside would do well to be patient and wait until there is a weight of evidence, both direct and indirect, available.

Since I can't read the Times article cited, can you tell me whether the CNN article is stating that there are tapes of Biden which were not released to the public or that the tapes referred to are the ones the Times reported on, presumably the video of Biden at the CFR conference relaying the story about Shokin getting fired?
