Draconian ?

Nobody perceives them as draconian here.

But yeah, it was higher in the 80s and early 90s, before it was tightened in 1996.

Before 1996, the murder rate was around 1.5 to 2 per 100.000 people. (It was 10 in the US at the time).

After 1996, it went down rapidly (as did suicides) to a low of 0.4 in 2014 and is now between 0.5 and 1 each year.

The US had about 8 per 100.000 last year.

In Austria, up until 1996, about 1/3rd of homicide offenses were by guns, now 10%.

In the US, it was 80% by guns last year (FBI), a record share !
we don't care about the rights or lack thereof in a second string European state

Yes we do, I do.

I think we should have those same rules here, that sounds reasonable.(y)

Gun laws are unanimously strict in most European countries, even in the UK, Russia etc. for private people.

Therefore, it’s not just little Austria, but accounts for 800 million people.

I wish you would have allowed multiple votes. Imo, it depends on the person and the gun.

are you willing to give your life to take away the constitutional rights of many? because many are willing to risk their own lives to protect their constitutional rights

yeah, that's why we have the USA. People got sick of authoritarian Euro government

The entire philosophy is a tautology. I need guns so I can have guns.

Gun laws are also very tight in China, where you only hear about knife attacks.

A brutal knife attack in China on a kindergarten kills 3 small children, a similar attack in a US kindergarten with an assault rifle kills 30.

So you understand why the gun law must be strict !

China, with its 1400 million people, had 10.000 murders last year.

The US, with its 330 million, had 25.000 murders (80% by gun) … SAD.

meh. You're not in any well regulated militia.
You dont have any "rights" to guns anyway. PFFFFFT.

I need guns for many reasons including being a prophylactic against control freaks

keep lying. the well regulated militia nonsense has NEVER been interpreted by any, i repeat ANY supreme court case.

25,000 murders in a year, I call bullshit. How many people have the Chinese government murdered in the last 50 years?

you're quite amused by spell check apparently. Will bright shiny objects keep you entertained for the next month?

"Molon Labe” (ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ) was what Leonidas said just before Xerxes’ troops shot him full of arrows, ran over his corpse and took his weapons.

Pick a different slogan. This one translates to: “I don’t know anything about history and can’t be bothered to learn.”

I have no doubt it is a significant totem for you.

The 25k figure is true.

And let’s not compare government/wartime/famine murders vs. civilian murders.

The homicide rate is always calculated by ordinary (non)citizens committing them, not war/government etc.

Apples & oranges comparison.

I certainly know the history. and it transcends one individual. Apparently the Greeks killed far more of their enemy than the 300 they lost. Since you hate private gun ownership, you should start trying to seize privately owned firearms

I have no doubt that almost every anti gun poster is leftwing in voting proclivities. I have some other theories about males who are anti gun, but expressing them would most likely violate several of the rules on this board

bullshit. find a year where there were 25K gunshot homicides in the USA. and bTW the vast majority of gunshot homicides (as well as knifings, beatings, garroting, and clubbing) are felon on felon

I'm sure the Gun Folk have created fables and ridicule for those outside of their tribe. Some might even be interesting to hear.

So your homicide rate is trending lower, accompanied by (I assume) fewer guns.

Our American homice rate is trending lower over the same time period, while our numbers of guns have gone up by tens of millions. I'm not seeing the correlation.

Did the overall number of guns go down in Austria, as a result of the laws you described? Or do you think the reduction in homicide can be attributed to your laws being more discriminatory on who can get guns?
