Leonardo DiCaprio portrays convicted Securities fraudster, Jordan Belfort, in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street“.
Actor Kenneth Choi plays a character in the movie called Chester Ming, based on my friend Victor Wang.
I never met Kenneth Choi. I know Victor pretty well. I met him for the first time in Sarasota in 1999 on an outside basketball court in a Blue Collar neighborhood. Thereafter, we often partied at his opulent home on Sarasota Bay. He left Sarasota in 2002 to serve time for his Securities fraud conviction. He spent 4 years 2 months locked up, most of it at Fishkill Correctional close to the Hudson River in Dutchess County NY.
Our mutual friend, Steve, forwarded a pic of Victor to me today. He looks great at 57! Trust me, the real life Victor comes off 10 times more Bad Ass than the character portrayed in the movie. Victor graduated John Hopkins in 1989. He played lacrosse on a team that won a National Championship. He still plays competitive fast pitch softball.
He stepped into a Sarasota gym one day about 2001, gone years without weightlifting; he joined my buddy Steve and I on the Bench. He easily put two reps up at three plates (315 lbs.).
