Putin continued to treat Ukraine as only partially sovereign. He defended Russia’s right to veto Ukraine’s geopolitical choices, while questioning Ukrainian statehood and repeatedly opining that Russians and Ukrainians were “one people.” Eventually, with Ukraine poised to defy him and sign a European Union Association Agreement, Putin invaded.

Seven years later, the undeclared war between Russia and Ukraine rumbles on with no end in sight. An entire generation of young Ukrainians with no memory of the shared Soviet past now knows Russia primarily as an enemy aggressor. Support for Ukraine’s pro-Russian political parties has plummeted to record lows, while a clear majority of Ukrainians backs the previously unpopular idea of NATO membership. It is difficult to escape the conclusion that Putin’s Ukraine strategy has been a self-inflicted defeat of historic proportions."

Do they mention VENEZUELA?

What they are doing in VENEZUELA is not Imperialism.

Moscow politic around the globe is the pure Gengizides imperialism

What a silly thing to say.

The is no "Gengizides Empire" so this cannot be "Gengizides imperialism".

Russian interest in Venezuela is not "imperialism" any more than US interactions in Japan are imperialism.

Venezuela security forces continue killings, torture
Report: Venezuela security forces continue killings, torture (apnews.com)

By REGINA GARCIA CANO and JORGE RUEDA July 5, 2021

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan security forces carried out fewer extra-judicial killings in the 12 months through April, a U.N. report said Monday, but it accuses them of a continued pattern of torture or cruel treatment of individuals as well as enforced disappearances and incommunicado detentions.

The report from U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights calls on the government of President Nicolas Maduro to cease the use of excessive force during demonstrations, dismantle pro-government armed civilian groups and ensure effective and independent investigations of all killings by security forces.

“Accountability remains key to preventing and remedying human rights violations and strengthening the rule of law,” said the report, which covers June 1, 2020, through April 30. “The protection and expansion of civic space is vital to strengthening democracy, fostering inclusive dialogue and addressing the root causes of current challenges.”

The Maduro regime pay no attention to the call of U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights to stop the harassment of civil society. As a matter of fact, is the U.N. agency that documented 17 extrajudicial killings by Maduro security forces. The regime would continuous to harass, arrest, detain and kill those that it catalog as opponents of the regime.

Actually it is annexation. Putin controls Maduro and he controls Venezuela = Putin controls Venezuela and the world's largest oil reserves with it. He is now selling their oil as Russian oil to avoid sanctions. Venezuela is now part of the Russian Federation and it will not stand.

No. It isn't annexation.

No more than we annexed Venezuela when our oil companies had exclusive pumping rights.

UK government backs Guaido in Venezuela gold dispute
UK government backs Guaido in Venezuela gold dispute | Nicolas Maduro News | Al Jazeera

Release of nearly $2bn Venezuelan gold held by Bank of England hinges on who London recognises as the country’s leader.

20 Jul 2021

The British government has sought to quash a bid by the Nicolas Maduro-backed Venezuelan central bank to repatriate nearly $1bn of its gold stored in London by reasserting its backing of opposition leader Juan Guaido.

In an unequivocal statement, the United Kingdom’s government said it is “clear that Juan Guaido has been recognised by Her Majesty’s Government since February 2019 as the only legitimate President of Venezuela”.

The statement came as legal teams representing Maduro and Guaido were at the UK Supreme Court on Monday in the latest round of a long-running struggle over who should control what amounts to roughly 15 percent of Venezuela’s foreign currency reserves. The Bank of England currently holds the 14 tonnes of gold.

The Maduro regime is in default and millions of Venezuelan struggle for survival. The regime can’t produce enough oil and sell it. About 5.4 million Venezuelans, a fifth of the population, have fled abroad. If the Maduro regime get its hands on the $1bn of gold stored in London, it will squander it very fast and the situation for the Venezuelans would become unsustainable.

Chavez really made a mess out of a rich, rich country. But they voted for the jerk and now that the populist policies that persuaded the masses are dead, the man that took up the baton is now caught out holding the stick. Now he and the people will pay the price of the foolishness.
They voted for Chavez, not for Maduro. Chavez has been dead since 2013 and now a dictator is in charge.

Venezuela’s Oil Production Plans Are Entirely Unrealistic
Venezuela’s Oil Production Plans Are Entirely Unrealistic | OilPrice.com

By Matthew Smith - Aug 02, 2021, 1:00 PM CDT

Despite a near economic collapse, shattered petroleum industry infrastructure and empty government coffers, Venezuela’s oil minister Tareck El Aissami continues to talk-up the prospects of the OPEC members crude oil output significantly expanding.

In a June 21 interview with Bloomberg El Aissami claimed that Venezuela would quadruple its oil output by the end of 2021. The oil minister further asserted that regardless of U.S. sanctions foreign investment would gush into the founding OPEC member’s petroleum industry and production would eventually recover to such a level that Venezuela would rank among the world’s four largest crude oil production nations. According to El Aissami’s Venezuela will be pumping up to two million barrels of crude oil daily by the end of 2021, which is four times greater than the 500,000 barrels per day produced during 2020. Current circumstances, regardless of El Aissami’s assertions, indicate that the state goal is nearly impossible to achieve.

Claims by Venezuela’s oil minister El Aissami are wistful thinking. Venezuela oil industry is decimated, it cannot expand oil production. Recently Norway and France oil companies have agreed to sell their investment in the Orinoco oil belt to Venezuela PDVSA, since drilling new wells would require large capital investments, and PDVSA does not have the resources to invest “$58 billion in Venezuela’s oil industry is required to revive production to 1998 levels”, it just cannot do it.

no reason to invade at all...eventually they will decimate themselves and fall.

I might have missed it. Did anyone other than you mention invading on this forum?
were did I say on this forum? My comment is they don't have to be invaded to fix the situation...yes, Conservatives advocated invading Venezuela...in fact, Trump thought it was a great idea....

Trump is irrelevant.

You have a fixation on "invasion".

I am opposed to invasion of anything, unless we are attacked first....can you point out where I have said we should invade Venezuela? I believe I pointed out that there is no need to invade....they will doom themselves..

The problems in Venezuela are certainly Chavez/maduro’s fault.

The USA are trying again to depose a foreign ruler besides the people of Venezuela hates Guaidó, the world has seen the consecuences of the USA foreign policy (Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc..) . Mr. Trump, let venezuelans decide about his destiny and remove your dirty hands from their country.

We've seen in Bolivia what happens when USA takes the control. More repression, plunder and violence. Now the MAS is leading the polls, because the imperialism can't stop the dignity of the latin folk.
Yep. The opposition party to MAS are the typical christian nationalists.

Did I state, infer or imply you said we should invade Venezuela?

Got straw?

No. I spoke to your repeated reference to invading.

Trump is long gone. He stated that even longer ago. Roughly three years ago.

Who are you preaching to?

No one here (to my knowledge) said we should invade.

Venezuela crude output in key region plunges due to diluent shortage
Venezuela crude output in key region plunges due to diluent shortage | Reuters

September 1, 2021

CARACAS, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Crude output in Venezuela's key Orinoco oil belt plunged by a quarter to less than 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) in August due to a shortage of diluents needed to blend with the region's extra-heavy crude, documents seen by Reuters showed.

The drop comes as state oil company PDVSA directs more medium and light crudes to refining to boost supplies of scarce motor fuel in the crisis-stricken OPEC nation, leaving little to dilute the Orinoco's tar-like crude into exportable grades. read more

Diluent shortages could threaten the relative stability in the South American country's oil output and exports in 2021, after years of underinvestment followed by U.S. sanctions sent crude production - the lifeblood of Venezuela's economy - plummeting to multi-decade lows last year.

Lack of diluents to produce crude into exportable grade for export has seriously impact foreign oil sales. Because of it, PDVSA is not able to boost supplies of scarce motor fuel, and the Maduro regime has not been able to delivered the 53,000 bpd to the Castroit regime as per theirs agreement. Now both regimes are in serious trouble.

New report says independence of judiciary has eroded, allowing abuses, including torture, to persist.

16 Sep 2021

Judges and prosecutors in Venezuela have played a significant role in serious rights violations against government opponents, UN investigators have said.

In a new report released on Thursday, the UN team tasked with probing the rights situation in Venezuela slammed a dire lack of judicial independence in the country while detailing how deficiencies in the justice system have allowed certain violations, including the use of torture, to continue with impunity.

“Amid Venezuela’s profound human rights crisis, the independence of the judiciary has become deeply eroded, jeopardising its role in imparting justice and safeguarding individual rights,” Marta Valinas, who chairs the UN fact-finding mission, said.

The team was established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2019 to probe a slew of alleged violations in the crisis-wracked country, where President Nicolas Maduro faces accusations of cracking down on dissent.

“Our latest investigation found reasonable grounds to believe that, under intensifying political pressure, judges and prosecutors have … played a significant role in serious violations and crimes against real and perceived opponents committed by various state actors in Venezuela,” Valinas said in a statement.

No doubt that Maduro’s regime had committed systematic human rights violations equivalent to crimes against humanity. This is typical behavior of a corrupt socialist government.
