Venezuela detains two Americans allegedly involved in failed raid to remove Maduro | World news | The Guardian

"Venezuelan authorities have detained two US citizens allegedly working with a US military veteran who has claimed responsibility for a failed armed incursion into the oil-producing country, President Nicolas Maduro said on Monday.

"In a state television address, Maduro said authorities arrested 13 “terrorists” on Monday allegedly involved in a plot he said was coordinated with Washington to enter the South American country via the Caribbean coast and oust him.

"Eight people were killed during the foiled incursion attempt on Sunday, Venezuelan authorities said."

It appears, to this ancient watcher of the passing parade, that the US Administration has presented us with "Bay of Pigs" redux. It may be instructive to see how the Administration goes about retrieving the two Americans now in captivity, if it does make an attempt.

The press will try to get more information from Mr. Jordan Goudreau, who has allegedly claimed that the two identified captured men are his guys. It will be interesting to see what else he is willing [Ed.: or permitted,] to disclose.

A few outlets are reporting this. My initial reaction, Venezuela has not been in the news too much lately so it was probably time for their government to start making things up to get back in the news.

Hi!

Thank you for reading and for taking time to comment. It will be interesting to see whether the AM radio talk show hosts have anything to say and, if they do, whether their comments are in lockstep. The Drudge(r) news compilation site, among others, has been slow to pick up the story.

Regards, stay safe and remain well.

Make things up? Like MH17 and Sandy Hook and all the other lyin' cheating and stealing Pompeo was bragging about?

Making things up is what the US government does when it's not overthrowing legitimate governments around the world.

They got some guys to oversee Colombian guerrillas and it appears the Venezuelans were ready for it. C'est la vie. Not quite as dramatic as a U-2 spy plane, but still pretty cool.

They actually have media in Venezuela you know. Bit odd to assume they’re dying to be on the front page of the Guardian.

My initial reaction is sounds like the CIA is bored. The current US president is too busy making a mess of his own country to bother with other countries so the spooks are just screwing around in South America like the good old days.

Im withholding my judgment until more news of this comes out, like recorded interviews with the so-called prisoners in question. Im sure the truth will come out sooner or later. Then again, American mercenaries trying to overthrow Latin American strongmen has happened a few times before.

I doubt the CIA is hiring these guys... Classic example of not knowing when your hut-hut days are over...

Check out Airan's youtube channel... (PS: If you are enlisting in a scheme to invade a foreign country it's probably not wise to post videos about the country a month or so before your "mission")

How about their passports?

Oh it happened, for sure. The trouble was, just like MH17, the narrative failed. It was not supported by facts.

Maduro has more than made enough of a mess busily starving his own people and providing safe haven to drug runners and insurgents. The shrieks of “its all a CIA plot” is nothing but a conspiracy theory.

I don't think I would say that the administration is involved in this...it sounds like two private citizens that did something very foolish. That said, Maduro is an evil scumbag. I don't think we should involve ourselves in countries that have no effect on us...
I don't know anything about these 2 Americans...if they live in Venezuela, if they were originally born in Venezuela...maybe they have a Venezuelan spouse?
I can picture involving myself in a situation in Honduras, thus why I am not there...my family is Honduran.

nah, more likely 2 Americans with some connection to Venezuela...

C'est la guerre would be closer..

Yeah maybe. Like I said, it was an initial reaction countering OrphanSlug’s impression that the Venezuelans faked the incident in order to get in the news.

Were children killed that day by an armed man, Thoreau?

Could be. You can see why people think the CIA might be involved though considering their history in Venezuela.

Jordan Goudreau is ex green beret, served in Iraq and Afghanistan and runs a private security firm based in Florida called SilverCorp USA. He has some interesting relationships. He's a former associate of Keith Schiller, Donald Trump's body guard. Schiller had accompanied Goudreau to a meeting last May to discuss security with representatives of Guaido'. Shady Billionaire Roen Kraft also attended that meeting.

Here's Silvercorp's tweet on May 3rd.

There is no proof of that.

um, yeah there is proof that children died at Sandy Hook, in fact a father that lost his child that day SUED and won a judgement against Alex Jones.

He also took an extraordinary step: He filed a motion asking the court to appoint an independent expert to conduct a postmortem paternity test using Noah's limited remaining DNA matter.

"We obtained a sample of Noah Pozner's DNA from the medical examiner's office and had a court-ordered expert do DNA testing to confirm that Leonard Pozner was the biological father of the person whose body was examined by Connecticut's state medical examiner," Zimmerman explained.

"We wanted to make sure that our hands were out of it, and no one could ever accuse us of having injected ourselves into the process in a way that could impact the outcome."
