DENVER – A U.S. Postal Service facility that handles mail for all of Colorado and Wyoming was ordered to close Thursday by the City of Denver due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus inside its premises.
The USPS distribution center at 7550 E. 53rd Place was found to have at least five confirmed cases of the new virus by the state of Colorado, according to information provided to Denver7 Thursday evening.

The order to close comes a day after the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) visited the distribution facility in which “minimal observations” were made by city health investigators, who alleged the distribution center did not grant them full access and refused to provide vital information during their visit to the site.

This can't be a good thing. Holy shit.

Hmm… the city government has decided to (try to) stop all federal postal deliveries for two entire states. This will be an interesting situation.

I lived in Denver for a while; I'm pretty sure there are at least three such distribution centers in the metro area. They'll likely just shift operations to the other two. It'll slow the mail down by a couple of days, but won't stop it altogether.

We got mail today, so I'm sure there's a work around.

Here in Austria, if a postal delivery center has a lot of infected workers, the Army logistics division takes over - instead of shutting it down.

Since that distribution center has a history of problems, I don't think anyone will notice it being shut down.

Simply close it briefly for cleaning. It’s not like COVID-19 is going to be absent elsewhere.

That would work too. But not just ignoring the health dept.

The difference between closing it briefly during cleaning and closing it until the cleaning has been completed is important.

Ever since your assclown orange buffoon decided to **** with the PO, it went to shit.
Trump doesn't run the Post Office and he certainly doesn't run the Denver distribution center. As I said, they have a history of problems.

No he doesn't run it. But he sure as hell ****ed with it during the election.

The obvious workaround is simply to ignore the city’s shutdown order.

So a post office should spread the coronavirus?

I think it needs to be until the cleaning is completed. Otherwise its likely to just start up again.

Are you under the impression that COVID-19 ‘lives‘ on surfaces rather than is transmitted from person to person?

It does for a short period of time, doesn't it? Seems that's what the info was at the beginning, but I haven't followed it.

Mayo clinic says covid remains for aorund 3 days.

"The virus may stay on surfaces from hours to days. However, studies suggest that the virus is unlikely to spread by touching most common surfaces three days after a person with COVID-19 has touched them."

That link specifies regularly cleaning and disinfecting “commonly touched” surfaces. I don’t see how a one-time ‘super cleaning’ meets that standard. How long ago did a COVID-19 infected person touch them?

Regularly clean and disinfect commonly touched household surfaces — such as tables, countertops, doorknobs, light switches, toilets, faucet handles and sinks. The virus may stay on surfaces from hours to days. I have no idea. Do you? I imagine that with a covid outbreak, someone's been touching things, lol. Maybe if the health department had been granted full access we'd have more information. I doubt they're issuing the order just for fun.

I thought the left were all vaccinated and wore masks. Interesting the few people I know who are not vaccinated and I never see wearing a mask work for the post office. I was just joking with them the other day about how uncle Joe is going to force you to wear a mask. Now we will find out how uncle Joe handles this crises. Or like the border maybe not.

That's what they did.

It's a federal facility - I doubt local health officials have the authority to shut it down. It's certainly questionable given their own observations of the public spaces concluded they were taking proper precautions.

It's also not a surprise that they wouldn't allow unannounced visitors in the secure portion of the facility.

Perhaps they should give the local health officials the address where they could send a complaint?
