I'm glad this ended well.

US thanks Iran for swift release of 10 Navy sailors - BBC News

The US has thanked Iran for the swift release of 10 US sailors held for entering its territorial waters. Secretary of State John Kerry said the resolution of the matter was "testament to the critical role diplomacy plays in keeping our country safe". Republican presidential hopefuls had criticized the administration over its handling of the incident.

I'm not sure what to make of this incident, but yeah it did seem to end far sooner & with far less grandstanding than others.

I suspect the recent nuke deal and political interaction had a lot to do with that.

Whether it was Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, or whomever, they certainly got that one right!

The sailors were taken by the hard line Republican guard not the Iranian military. They are angry at the nuclear agreement that was signed and wanted to make a scene. Hmm, does that sound familiar? We have some here that wanted to make a scene too. Politics sure does make some strange bedfelllows.

Glad to see Iran being mature.

No, what you are seeing is the US government acting weak and stupid again:

A video aired Wednesday by Iranian state television shows an American sailor apologizing for entering Iranian waters, an embarrassing development for a U.S. administration trying to paint the service members' quick release as a diplomatic victory.

"It was a mistake that was our fault and we apologize for our mistake," said the U.S sailor, who was identified by Iran's Press TV as the commander. "It was a misunderstanding. We did not mean to go into Iranian territorial water. The Iranian behavior was fantastic while we were here. We thank you very much for your hospitality and your assistance."

It is not clear from the video -- which also shows the lone female sailor wearing a head covering in accordance with Islamic tradition -- that the sailor was speaking voluntarily, and U.S. officials have not yet said under what circumstances the apology was delivered. A spokesman for Secretary of State John Kerry has made it clear he has not apologized to Iran.

"THANKYOU!""THANKYOU!""THANKYOU!""THANKYOU!"

I am sounding like a broken record I know, but here goes...."this is great for Trump".

Can't we be positive?

Nope- Obama is the root cause of all evil that befalls the US.
Well his is retiring next years, then it will be whoever the Dems nominate.
Edit- Forgot Kenya as well

Why is that? .

Also having a low ranking soldier issue the apology, while held hostage, and then Washington saying " What, we never apologized" is going to fool no one but the really stupid ones. The dishonesty of Washington is one of the many things driving the rise of trump, and this is an especially aggravating case of it, coming as it does from Kerry, an incompetent weasel like his boss.

LOL I hope Trump says that too. The sailor who gave the apology was still in the hands of he Revolutionary guard. He said that to get free and who cares?. The U.S. Govt. has not apologized and they won't be. You seem to want he same thing as the Revolutionary Guard in Iran. To make a scene that might disrupt the nuclear treaty. Maybe you should find one of them. and be Facebook buddies.

Thank goodness we did have to under ball busting BS and trade arms like the US did when the Shaw got kicked out.

It's sad to see the vile rancour is undiminished.

They don't know how to ramp down their ignorant anger, they need their daily dose of fear and anger. Its hilarious.

A young and moronic child afraid of being whipped by his parents if he misbehaves isn't being mature, he's just acting on fear.

You were born after 1979, amirite?

It does when your reference was during a time when the US was led by an absolute hippie fairy with no balls.

How would you even know what happened in 1979? Stop reading the Conservative Tribute.

Let me give you a likely scenario for the whole incident. They were spying but the circumstances with the nuclear deal are front and center and Iran took precautions not to upset the US. The incident was timed to coincide with Obama's speech and to embarrass Obama. It was done by a faction in government (likely R's or hawks) who want to see the deal destroyed. Nearly the entire US government is opposed to the deal with Iran and this was perhaps the last opportunity to ruin the progress made by Kerry and the Obama admin.

This is an explanation on why Iran responded so quickly and that was not usual in an instance such as this. Iran was obviously on the side of right and could have held them much longer.

As for the future of the nuclear deal with Iran, there is little doubt that the next president, along with congress will destroy the deal on the pretence of Iran not abiding by it's mandate.
