US suicides hit an all-time high last year; a main driver is the growing availability of guns

You spoke about "suicidal intent"
You can answer a question as to whether your opinion applied to homicidal intent as well, without breaching forum rules

Really ?
Where ?

No..firearms are not a risk of death..
Because there is no evidence that if a person doesn't have a firearm..they will not choose an alternative similarly lethal means.
In other words..your chance of death does not increase with a firearm.

Firearms are a risk of death BY FIREARM..in that IF a person is suicidal and chooses a very lethal method..if they have a firearm..they are more likly to choose that over other very lethal means.

Cigarettes smoking increases your chances of death..unlike firearms.
Proof?

No upset whatsoever. I understand the world is filled with incorrigibly biased people who have locked themselves into mistaken concepts.
Yea and those people often talk about need as some factor when it comes to exercising a right.

Exactly. Where is your proof that it does. ?
Posted. See 950 as a start.
Google <firearm access suicide> for further substantiation.
Do you people read?

ok now? now you're trolling and I rarely call someone out on that
Took you that long to figure it out lol?

Don’t catch the points it’s what they want.

I do. That's how I am able to refute your repeated claims.

Refute away. Show us APROPRIATE evidence, not tangential nonsense about other countries without firearms.
You should, as well, include professional recommendations from mental health experts that show these professionals do NOT consider firearms to be a risk factor.

From the ACP link: Firearms cause an estimated 31 000 deaths annually in the United States (1).

People who should know better, engage in magical thinking. Funnily enough, their conclusion makes no such claim.

I showed you the evidence..appropriate evidence...you just didn't like it.
And you keep lying about the " risk factor".
But you are welcome to explain the mechanism in which a firearm makes someone suicidal.

I haven't asserted that the firearm "makes someone suicidal".
The firearm poses a risk factor for a suicidal act becoming lethal. But you know that and refuse to accept that firearms are significant risk factors in self-harm resulting in death. Report back after you do your reading.

Ummm you made the claim in this post.
It's not a risk for self harm

You did not do your reading or seem to be suffering from a reading comprehension problem.

Maybe the MSM should stop brainwashing people and this administration should stop shitting on people.

Then it will be better.

You sure seem like you are.

Yeah like people who think inanimate objects have magical powers and can convince people to kill themselves

Please, do not subject us to another one of your reckless and irrational hallucinations.

Your disregard for the importance of diminishing firearm access to the care for those with self-harm intent suggests exceptional hostility toward those suffering from depression.

You did not do your reading or seem to be suffering from a reading comprehension problem.
Nope. "Serious risk factor for self harm" IS saying that a firearm causes suicide/self harm.

Just as saying that smoking cigarettes is a risk factor for cancer. Is saying that smoking cigarettes causes cancer.

Initially I thought you just didn't understand what you are saying..
But it's even pointed out to you...then you disavow it...then continue to say it.

"About 49,500 people took their own lives last year in the U.S., the highest number ever, according to new government data posted Thursday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which posted the numbers, has not yet calculated a suicide rate for the year, but available data suggests suicides are more common in the U.S. than at any time since the dawn of World War II.

Experts caution that suicide is complicated, and that recent increases might be driven by a range of factors, including higher rates of depression and limited availability of mental health services. But a main driver is the growing availability of guns, said Jill Harkavy-Friedman, senior vice president of research at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Suicide attempts involving guns end in death far more often than those with other means, and gun sales have boomed — placing firearms in more and more homes. A recent Johns Hopkins University analysis used preliminary 2022 data to calculate that the nation’s overall gun suicide rate rose last year to an all-time high. For the first time, the gun suicide rate among Black teens surpassed the rate among white teens, the researchers found.

“I don’t know if you can talk about suicide without talking about firearms,” Harkavy-Friedman said."

At the very least, the government should be educating Americans, like they did with cigarettes, about the danger of having an unsecured gun in the home.
With a criminal senile Dixiecrat in White House is it any wonder why suicides are increasing?

Or the growing disaster of Bidenomics. :ROFLMAO:

Guns provide a method of suicide of which there is no return. Some people will eat pills or cut their wrists and then have second thoughts and seek help. You can't do that with guns.
Not entirely true, but firearms do prove to be the most effective method of suicide.

The lethality of the various methods of suicide are:
  • Firearms = 82.5%
  • Drowning / Submersion = 65.9%
  • Suffocating / Hanging = 61.4%
  • Poison by Gas = 41.5%
  • Jump = 34.5%
  • Poison / Drug Ingestion = 4.5%
  • Cut / Pierce = 1.2%
  • Other = 8%
Source:

Firearms are responsible for just over 50% of all suicides, and used primarily by men. 76% of all suicides are by men, with men being four times more successful at suicide than women even though women are more likely to commit suicide than men.

500 million firearms privately owned in the country how many people killed by shooting? Is it even half a quarter a 16th?

Social guns cause risk we'd probably see a significantly higher incident of legal gun owners being killed and we don't. I would bet that there is much higher percentage of illegal gun owners being killed or killing other people with guns. In fact legal gun owners are typically more prone to follow the laws than police.

The proof is the statistics.

Part of me is a bit shocked by drowning.

I have overestimated your ability to understand the influences underlying conditions or external factors may have in the development of disease.
