Everybody knows it is a political cult. Even the cult members know it. They refuse to admit it because it is shameful. That's why it makes them angry when it is mentioned. It causes them to think the left is just making things up and trying to bait them. They are angry at themselves for being in a cult, but the anger is redirected at the left as they try to force themselves to believe the left is lying about them being in a cult because they want to think the left "is empty," "has nothing," and is "being shallow" in telling them they are in a cult.

It is stupid to deny reality. Nobody would want to be in that position if they are the only one doing it and totally singled out as the weird person who refuses to accept reality. But it gets a whole lot easier when other people are doing it. That's enabling. If other people are doing something stupid or wrong that makes it more acceptable. Weak minds can easily be coerced to do stupid or wrong things as long as they are part of a group doing the same thing. Peer pressure is what keeps maga going. Few of them would hold their beliefs if they didn't think their friends were also doing the same thing.

That's what makes a cult so hard to break. No cult member wants to endure the insults they share about non cult members. They all know as soon as they break ranks the others will be talking about them in the same diminutive ways they talk about liberals.

The two big factors that make people stay with Dysfunctional Donald are the idea that if other people are doing something wrong or stupid that makes it OK for them to do it too, and the fear that if they break ranks they will be talked about in disrespectful ways.

There is a lot of immaturity going on in a cult. To leave a cult, one has to admit they have been immature and want to rise above it. That can happen, but it's as rare as an alcoholic realizing they are powerless over the liquor and need to stop or possibly get in a program to reorganize their life without alcohol.

IOW, the cult is like an addiction. Maga is like a bunch of alcoholics, emotionally powerless to free themselves from the addiction of Dysfunctional Donald.

I was in Europe earlier this year (three weeks in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland). The people in every country were entirely gracious to us, and I never got a sense of judgment from anyone.

In short, they knew American wasn't Trumpism.
