[h=1]US Officials Say Government Assessing Massive Breach of Federal Personnel Data[/h]US officials say government assessing massive breach of federal personnel data.
Hackers supposedly are coming form China Chinese hackers breach federal government
4 million people affected. Not being said or not if it came from official hackers on behalf of the Chinese state.
"This is an attack against the nation," said Ken Ammon, chief strategy officer of Xceedium, who said the attack fit the pattern of those carried out by nation states for the purpose of espionage. The information stolen could be used to impersonate or blackmail federal employees with access to sensitive information, he said.
The agency said it is offering credit monitoring and identity theft insurance for 18 months to individuals potentially affected. The National Treasury Employees Union, which represents workers in 31 federal agencies, said it is encouraging members to sign up for the monitoring as soon as possible.
Cyber-security experts also noted that the OPM was targeted a year ago in a cyber-attack that was suspected of originating in China. In that case, authorities reported no personal information was stolen.....snip~
China suspected in massive breach of federal personnel data
It's a huge attack against our nation. And worse yet this type of attack could hit banks, electrical grids, medical industry, NASA, etc. And I don't have any faith in our government to be able counter these type of attacks. Especially in light of the role out of Obamacare and all the money spent.
It's not good and can you imagine what someone could do with that information, with bribes etc. And worst this type of breach could cause bank failures, electrical grid failures, nothing is sacred. I don't have much faith in how the government plans to counter this problem.
This just broke Right after Hillary called for an Automatic National Voter Database. Bad timing for the Ole Girl and whatnot, huh?
The Obama administration is scrambling to assess the impact of a massive data breach involving the agency that handles security clearances and US government employee records. Government officials familiar with the situation told Associated Press that hack occurred at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Interior Department and could potentially affect 4 million people at every federal agency.
The OPM is the human resources department for the federal government, and issues security clearances. Reports in the New York Times and Washington Post on Thursday, both citing unnamed sources in the federal government, reported Chinese hackers were behind the breach.
In November, a former DHS contractor disclosed another cyber-breach that compromised the private files of more than 25,000 DHS workers and thousands of other federal employees.....snip~

But don't worry Hillary says she never gave up any breach with her private/public server.

Another red herring to keep voter suppression laws.
Hillary hit it out of the park today in Texas, huh?
Who would the ole girl and whatnot be?
What does Hillary have to do with this breach ?

Good morning, MMC. :2wave:
I'm not very familiar with "hacking." How can it be determined who is doing the hacking when it theoretically could be anyone on the planet? Do they leave some kind of "signature" or something? I know that businesses have been hacked, but I assume that would be for financial reasons - credit card info, etc. What interest would anyone have in some low level person working in a government office, as an example? What information might be useful to the hacker? This is surreal!
I heard that a signature is left. I believe it was talked about when Hillary's server issue came up.
Uh just following the rules and trying to make it more efficient... No need to get all upity.Yeah and????? So what.....we have plenty around here that our duplication threads. You don't see a rush to fix any of that do you.
No I have no idea.Although I do have quite a bit on this. I think you know where I am going with it now tho, huh?

I can't imagine why any sensible-rational person would trust government with anything but the bare essentials!
Has anyone ever before seen what appears to be something everyday going so bad under any other president?
What - A - Mess!
But remember we need big brother to watch out for us with this kind of stuff!
I most certainly do and I blame the Obama Administration for that also; considering most of those hackers are in the service of hostile foreign governments! And yet you never gave a **** about the millions of citizens affected when hackers go after private businesses.
