Brett McGurk, the special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter ISIS, submitted his resignation Friday because of President Donald Trump's decision to pull US forces out of Syria, according to a senior administration official. A State Department official told CNN that McGurk had informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday that he was resigning effective December 31. CBS News was the first to report the news of McGurk's resignation, which came one day after Defense Secretary James Mattis resigned, also in part due to the Syria decision. Going against the advice of his military and national security advisers, Trump on Wednesday announced the "full" and "rapid" withdrawal of US military from Syria, declaring that the US has defeated ISIS. Sources familiar with the matter said McGurk was frustrated over Trump's sudden announcement, which was the opposite of the strategy he had just been briefing coalition partners on while in the region: to stay in Syria, fight ISIS and counter Iran. According to the sources, McGurk viewed the Syria decision as reckless and couldn't defend it, let alone execute it. The sources said Mattis' resignation also played a part in the timing of McGurk's resignation.
Earlier this month, McGurk said US forces would remain in Syria even after ISIS was defeated.
Yet another well-informed administration official resigns over Trumps disastrous Syria decision. Trumps impetuous cut and run, delivers victory to America's enemies .... Assad/Putin/Khamenei/Nasrallah.
It also sets up America's Syrian Kurdish allies (YPG/YPJ) for wholesale slaughter at the hands of Turkish dictator Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

And just like that, 40% of the voting population switches from being anti-terrorist hawks to being pacifists befuddled about why our men and women are dying on foreign soil.
Remember their 8 years of dishonest attacks on Obama for supposedly being soft on terrorists, I mean palling around with them when they make a show of wondering why we ended up in Syria.
Wrong. It's the resignation of a complete and utter dumbass of an ideological dinosaur. He's of the same mindset of those who have been making disasters for decades because they think they can intervene and fix things that can't be fixed by outside forces.
And if we can't exert enough pressure on a ****ing NATO ally to keep them from committing genocide then we have much bigger problems than pulling out of an area we should've never been in the first place and has specifically gotten to the point where it is today because we went in.
Damn...there are some dumbasses running around pretending to be actual real thinking people.
With the total Syria withdrawal and the 50% withdrawal from Afghanistan, I predict ISIS or AQ (maybe both) will strike the mainland US within a year.
And you lead the parade as usual.

Not to worry. Donny can do it all. His "gut" tells him more than any expert can tell him....err or is it Rush that can tell him more than any expert.
Hum.....Gets a little hard to follow the plot after awhile.
"And just like that 40% of the voting populous switched from being anti-war/intervention became the biggest war hawks you could find." Trump, making the Democrat party a great war party again.
Sorry you're upset about a possible end to your Forever War.
Sorry you're upset about a possible end to your Forever War.
Mattis is an Independent and McCurk is a Republican...
You have a point if we are to be isolationists and leave everyone of our allies out to be ultimately destroyed.
Our being in the middle east is about world order and about trying to have a world that is safe for everyone and that believes in Democracy. With your approach, we would in the long run be run over because countries like Russia and China would take over all the other nations and ultimately come after us.
I understand your frustration but if we do not stand for some principle regarding what life should be about then we are no better than the worst in the world, just bigger.
US envoy in ISIS fight, Brett McGurk, resigns over US withdrawal from Syria
Brett McGurk and James Mattis - both US officials have now resigned over Trumps Syria withdrawal.

End? The style and execution of this decision by Trump all but guarantees a Forever War, especially if Turkey is allowed to genocide the Kurds all up and down Syria.
Trump is rapidly turning into a worse President than George WMDs in Iraq Bush, if he hasn't already, because of this idiocy.
Not running around blowing up and destabilizing other countries, supporting terrorists, or causing most of our own problems is not isolationist. In case you missed it on my comment, Tukey is a NATO ally and they are currently the ones threatening genocide against the Kurds. So please...continue your lecture about allies.
And, no...it doesn't make us safer. It's specifically made us less safe by any metric you want to measure, physically, fiscally, influentially. Where you been the past few decades, especially the most recent two? Probably not to my left or right when I went to both regions.

President Trump's decision to withdraw all U.S. troops from Syria may be causing consternation in Washington and among many of America's international partners, but there is at least one NATO ally celebrating the abrupt announcement: Turkey. "We welcome the decision," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a news conference Friday, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency. And Turkey was planning to launch another offensive imminently, even vowing, in the words of Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, that Syrian Kurdish fighters would soon be "buried in the trenches that they dig." "We had decided last week to launch a military incursion in the east of the Euphrates River," Erdogan said in Istanbul, according to Reuters. "Our phone call with President Trump, along with contacts between our diplomats and security officials and statements by the United States, have led us to wait a little longer." They would prefer to hold off "until we see on the ground the result of America's decision to withdraw from Syria," he explained, clarifying that delaying the operation should not be confused with its outright cancellation.
