Us goverment shutdown

This is based on an "estimated" (no math included) 0.2% reduction in annualized 4th quarter growth, based on less government spending.

Taxes continue to roll in, it's that the government isn't spending as much.

That is correct. Since GDP is calculated with government spending being part of the formula, less spending automatically means proportional contraction of GDP. It doesn't mean that less discretionary spending hurts the "real economy". Depends entirely on the pattern of remaining spending.
It will, certainly, hurt, big time, if US defaults on its debts. To their credit, Republicans did try to pass a law that would make servicing debt the obligatory first priority in a budget crunch (The Full Faith and Credit Act). Democrats shot it down.

The House Republicans just need to keep offering to negotiate, offering to work with the senate and obummer. They keep that up and the people will begin to realize who's "fault" this really is -the left wing zealots that want to negotiate with a country that stones gay people to death and not the elected legislative body of the people.

Yep, the Democrats should call their bluff and negotiate. First demand, a 70% tax rate on the top bracket. Next demand, repeal Citizens United. Third demand, an excise tax on all financial transaction of the rich. Fourth demand, cut military spending to the bone.

Let the negotiations begin!

Wait, I forgot, the GOP doesn't want to really negotiate. It's all a farce. Be careful what you wish for.

You're just talking nonsense.

Laws are repealed. Citizens United is not a law.

Oh I understand that. Demand that the constitution be changed to overturn Citizens United. That or nothing.

See, negotiations can be fun! Let's negotiate baggers!
