an economy based on taxes fails ?

Government spending touches every aspect of the economy, and disruption of spending, more than the direct loss of income, threatens to damage investor and business confidence in ways that can seriously harm economic growth,” LeBas said yesterday in an interview.

The Fed on Sept. 18 unexpectedly refrained from reducing the $85 billion pace of bond purchases intended to boost growth, saying it needs more time to assess the economy’s progress. Federal Reserve Bank of New York President William C. Dudley said last week the budget showdown in Washington is among the risks to the outlook.

Wouldn't this be sort of like saying that the removal of a tapeworm is harmful to the host? Also, as every despotic emperor of old knew, an economy can proceed at very healthy rate, but that doesn't man that the peasants get to share in the wealth. An economy largely dependent upon taxation is designed to befit the ruling elite above all others.

This is based on an "estimated" (no math included) 0.2% reduction in annualized 4th quarter growth, based on less government spending.

Taxes continue to roll in, it's that the government isn't spending as much.

An economic analyst from CNBC, of all places, was on Morning Joe this morning and essentially poo-pooed Mika's attempt to fear monger for a debt limit disaster.
Needless to say she was ushered off the program after her brief spot.

I saw that. They definitely brought out the hook in short order. We need a proper disaster, and nobody will be allowed to prevent it, disrespect it, or play it down. Nobody.

And right before that they had a Texas Congressman... did you see Mika interview him? That was great.
She asked him questions I guess intended to elicit some radical response but he didn't give her any.
She must've not understood him because he didn't say anything she's used to hearing from Donny Deutsch.
So she ended the interview with a deep sigh and turned to the CNBC woman with "What am I missing?" like the Congressman was an space alien.
It was like a caricature.

Nope. Didn't see that one. I can only take a few minutes of Mika before internal organs involuntarily go into revolt. It's a safe bet that whenever someone to the right of Che appears on CNBC with Mika, the baiting is serious.

Only because journalism empowers their victory, but you will see that journalistic endeavor start backing off the "we won't negotiate" and "my way or the highway" rhetoric we heard yesterday. That will not resonate with the masses. The leftist in charge can't have their way

Said a senior administration official: “We are winning…It doesn’t really matter to us” how long the shutdown lasts “because what matters is the end result.”

If "backing off" means "ignoring" yeah.
They sure ain't gonna jump on it.
The piece indicated Jay Carney disavowed it so that'll probably be enough to deep six it.

The House Republicans just need to keep offering to negotiate, offering to work with the senate and obummer. They keep that up and the people will begin to realize who's "fault" this really is -the left wing zealots that want to negotiate with a country that stones gay people to death and not the elected legislative body of the people.

Good morning, humbolt! :2wave:

Strange that it doesn't seem to matter what part of the country you live in! I'm hearing the same opinion about Mika from locals! I personally don't watch the program often...I have enough aggravation from the dog and cats that live with me to keep me sufficiently on edge! One of them peed last night on the brand new area rug I just bought for the family room! Aargh! Needless to say, they are all outside now, pointing fingers, while Coit handles the cleanup! I think I'll go sailboating today! :2mad: Later....

Is it a Government sailboat and as such drydocked by the shutdown?

It's an easy program to avoid, but it is around and intrudes on my sanity from time to time. I have only myself to blame for that. Peed on the new rug, huh? Ever notice they never, ever pee on an old rug? Mine know better now, because I keep the smoker in plain view for them to consider. (I can see them calculating whether or not I would fit in the thing). Sailing? Now, there's something worth doing. Enjoy it, and forget insignificant things like Mika and her weird world. This is a great time of year to be on the water.

I hope you're right ... I'll say this much ... I've detected more Republican/Conservative interviewees calling out the media for their clearly biased treatment lately.
It's late in coming but welcome and necessary.

Day 4 of the government shutdown...

Today was a strange day. My alarm didn't go off this morning. I was almost late to work. It wasn't due to a power outage from the government not functioning, it had a lot to do with the whiskey we drank around the bon fire. I must have forgotten to set it as I went to bed. As I got to work, all the street lights were working. There was no burning couches in the streets or no more less prostitutes than the day before. It did rain this morning. Things are getting strange here. So close to government but none to be seen. Tony, my dog, peed on 5 trees this morning. That was one more than usual. Maybe he is afraid that the government shutdown would cause a drought, so he decided to do more for the environment. Silly dog...it was raining, which was strange since it didn't rain in the first 3 days of the government shut down.

Finally someone gets around to the human (and canine) element in this tragic story.

It wouldn't cost $300M/day if the government had left that money in the hands of the taxpayer.

The public gets it. It will take them some time to come around. Every time the lame stream media touts a story of personal crisis over the shut down the Republicans need to go out and show the people "it was funded" and "we offered to cover that" but obama/reid and the democrats don't want to talk, won't do the people's business, and this tide will change on them. Its a fact - or else they'd be sticking with the "my way or highway" BS. The fact they are coming off this shows clearly they know they can't get away with that hyperbole. The "jihad" and "arsonist" and "anarchist" crap is all about to come to a screeching halt for the left because the polls will tell them they are losing and will need to capitulate something.

Yes I noticed. No doubt the internal polls aren't producing the desired results.
