UPS is looking to slash about 20,000 jobs and close more than 70 facilities as it drastically reduces the amount of Amazon shipments it handles.
The package delivery company said Tuesday that it anticipates making the job cuts this year. It anticipates closing 73 leased and owned buildings by the end of June. UPS said that it is still reviewing its network and may identify more buildings to be shuttered.

I posted this a few days ago. The cost of tariffs is substantial. People will simply stop buying.

Oh no. I'm gonna miss out on my soft quilted sofa cushion. It's just too much money now. And I've always wanted a space-saving two tiered organizer but I now just can't manage it. That awful Trump means I can no longer afford my in-car hand held vacuum!! If only I had bought that washable 6 ft table cover with elastic edges BEFORE the tariffs

This was in the works already when Amazon started doing its own shipping.
This. Both USPS and UPS have been cut off since Amazon started their own deliveries. Almost all of my deliveries have been from Amazon trucks the last few months.

Why won't they ship Amazon packages?

Do they not want to pay people to do this?

Indeed.

And the only reason MAGAs can pretend not to see it yet is that importers generally stocked up on everything they could stock up on.

How worthless MAGA shits think tariffs work:

Solid point. But this also has to be having an effect.

You will.

It’s going to lag by a couple weeks.

The supply chain is massive and impacts ripple through various industries at different speeds.

Your first impacted will be the over the road drivers that tend to take items from the ports to the warehouses.

UPS and delivery drivers are at the end of the supply chain (for the most part) and impacts there are still a bit in the future.

don't listen to liberal media lies ...

what if I told you under Joe Biden 43,000 UPS jobs were lost?

Why UPS keeps shrinking its workforce

UPS’ headcount has dropped by 43,000 employees in just three years, and more cuts are coming. Experts say it’s not all market-driven.

Really stinks. My friend is a UPS delivery driver and he and his wife are off to welcome their new baby. I hope he is not affected.

They won't pretend for long. Don't worry though, they'll come up with plenty of excuses to exculpate Trump for single-handedly causing inflation, while still screaming bloody murder about the inflation during 2022... which btw wasn't Biden's fault.

It isn't fun for these people being laid off but if they can find comparable jobs it isn't tragic. Also lets remember how Trump is creating all kinds of job openings by getting rid of immigrants, both legal and illegal. Because of this there should be lots of jobs in our farm fields and washing dishes opening up. Of course at the rate the great orange one is going, these jobs may soon be in high demand.
Just in case some people don't get it, this was sarcasm.

A city delivery fleet is a good way of utilizing electric power. You have fixed daily routes, and they are not too long. Then they can charge all night.

But what is they have a three day power outage?
Rivian's have pretty good range. This is especially true for city driving, where speeds aren't over 50mph.

2025 Rivian R1S Range Test: How Far The Base Model Goes On The Highway
Rivian only offers LFP batteries in the base configurations of the R1S and R1T for this reason. If you want more range, you have to step up to the more dense NCM packs in the longer-range versions of the R1S and R1T. The LFP pack—available only with a dual-motor setup—is rated for 270 miles of mixed city/highway driving by the EPA. The longest-range NCM configuration can go 420 miles on a charge.

When was the last 3 day power outage in an American city? If there is one won't the traffic lights and streetlights be out anyway?

Fuel pumps will be out as well. Electric and ICE vehicles would soon be parked.
I have a low-range commuter EV. I can go a week without charging, easy. A Rivian would be able to go much further and longer with only city driving.
