Wanna know about how dirty our government can be, watch a documentary or two about the United Fruit Company and how the Dulles boys helped it build a huge corrupt empire basically on the back of bananas. We replaced the heads of governments, had people killed, armies bribed all to control millions of acres of land in other government's countries. Thank you cia.

There is basically no country in Latin America that wouldn’t have been exponentially better off from, like, 1875 on if the U.S. hadn’t been able to exert power beyond its own borders.

It's what drove Castro's Cuba into the arms of the Soviet Union. Castro nationalises United Fruit property, Kennedy embargoes Cuba, Cuba needs a market and there's Khrushchev, arms spread wide.
Maybe Trump will lift the embargo so Coca-Cola can buy Cuban sugar again.

This book is also really good if you want to know the level of bastardry the Dulles Brothers represent.

Years ago I read Bitter Fruit about United Fruit Company, the Dulles brothers, and the US overthrow of the Arbenz government in Guatemala.

Anything that US business interests didn’t like in Latin America could be conveniently labeled communist — no proof required— and then poof, made to disappear.

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”

If I remember correctly, this is where the term "banana republic" came from.

One of my first experiences with politics was the "Cuban Missile Crisis". I was just months in USA and we were having "air raid drills" in school where we were told to scrunch under our desks. It scared the shit out of me knowing that it was a fool's move, that an atomic bomb would obliterate everyone!

Today, JFK is revered as a hero. That day he was a complete ASSHOLE who was despised by every adult we came across! He was called a "war monger" and a fool by my parents friends. I have NEVER been able to view JFK's presidency as anything but chaos and stupidity. The thought of a Kennedy and ANY position frightens me.

JFK who was financed by the likes of the Dulles brothers and other slimy ilk.

Pretty heavy stuff.
My first experience with politics was watching Republican hypocrites like Slippery Newt Gingrinch and Bob Livingston attempting to impeach Bill Clinton for lying about getting blowjobs from one of his hot interns in the Oral Office.

In the 1990's, I was a kid/teenager from a Christian Conservative household and was taught to hate Clinton and believe he was unfit to be president by people who would later turn around and support Trump. I wish Clinton was president now. We had one of the best economies in American history, were at relative peace around the world, and had genuinely Conservative policies such as welfare reform, balanced budget, and a decrease in the size of the federal government.

My sympathies.

I hope you're recovering from the ordeal.

I was raised Catholic and taught by nuns. 42 years of therapy has helped.

What are you doing to recover?

BTW? I met god. She isn't much to look at but can she sing!

Oh, wait, maybe that was Bif Naked....

I was raised Catholic but was fortunate enough not to have to go to Catholic school (I went to public school).
I am now an atheist. I don't have anything against religion. I respect people's religious views but want them to respect my non-religious views in return.
