Ukraine strikes at east; 2 helicopters shot down.....

628x471.jpg

Ukrainian government troops guard a checkpoint just outside Slovyansk, eastern Ukraine, Friday, May 2, 2014. Ukraine launched what appeared to be its first major assault against pro-Russian forces who have seized government buildings in the country's east, with fighting breaking out Friday in a city that has become the focus of the insurgency

Two Ukrainian helicopters were shot down Friday as Ukraine launched its first major offensive against the pro-Russia forces that have seized government buildings in the east. The Kremlin said Kiev's move against the insurgents "destroyed" hopes for peace in the region.

Fighting broke out around dawn near Slovyansk, a city 160 kilometers (100 miles) from the Russian border that has become the focus of the armed insurgency against Ukraine's interim government. Two helicopter crew were killed in the crashes, both sides said, and a pro-Russia militiaman was reported killed.

One of the helicopters was hit by a surface-to-air missile, the Ukrainian Security Service said, adding that the sophisticated weapon undercut Russia's claims the city was simply under the control of armed locals. The agency said its forces were fighting "highly skilled foreign military men" in Slovyansk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said the offensive "effectively destroyed the last hope for the implementation of the Geneva agreements" that aimed to defuse the crisis. A day earlier Putin warned Ukraine not to move against the insurgents and said it should withdraw its military from eastern and southern regions.....snip~

It now begins.....this Ukrainian Temporary President is going to push this conflict into a Civil War. What do you think will take place now? What will be the Russian response? Putin now has what he needs.....the Ukrainian Military attacking Russian People. What say ye?

MMC, it's a lot worse then that now. Riots in Odessa. Russia has issued a warning to stop action now or "else". Should add: Militia from Crimea is going to Slovyansk.

Up until this point I've been weary of the WW2 comparisons... But this is how world wars start...

If Russia thinks Ukraine has gone too far they will invade and all ****ing hell will break lose.

Mornin' AC. :2wave: I know.....this piece was from 5hrs ago. Anything else was older and for some reason. Our MS media doesn't want to like lets us know whats progressing for the moment. Guess they want our Politicians to be able to sound off and flap their gums first.

Kerry aka Lurch.....was the First to pop. Says he will be hurrying on over to the Ukraine to give some support.

This is the sort of worst case scenario I detailed some time ago if you remember. This is what gives Russia the "moral right" to send its troops in.

http://www.debatepolitics.com/europe/190561-can-ukraine-do-settle-crisis-eastern-oblasts.html

II) Ukrainian govt starts Berkrut-style crackdowns on the protesters. Massive fights, people getting injured, maybe even a fatality or two. Outcome? Russia condemns this action to the international community, waits a few days for some other tragedy to happen, it happens, that's cause for intervention... the end result is same as I).
Likely outcome: the 3 regions join Russia and Putin will get the credit. He'll end this story being the hero that eastern europe needs. He would have saved lives, caused stability and uphold the right of self-determination of the people.

Well if things continue as is, I don't think Kerry will be landing in Ukraine, but Russia. The Rubicon has been crossed and there is no going back. It's a Friday, Russian markets are closed and the Government of Ukraine needs IMF money.. they can't back down and Russia won't stand for Russians being bullied.

Yes, but things are moving fast.. so it might not be days. it might be hours.

That thread was posted 1 month ago. So those are general scenarios. There are 3 scenarios where ukraine loses and 1 in which it can win. The punchline of the joke is, Ukraine loses if it intervenes through force. And that's exactly what it is doing.

Oh I know, I was updating your scenario to fit today.

Angry residents in eastern Ukrainian village block government tanks.

Angry residents surround Ukrainian armored personnel carriers in a small village in the Donetsk region, urging forces not to advance and to disarm. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).....snip~

Now the Media will up things a notch as this continues to escalate. Already the Ukraine President is calling them terrorists. So and the other term insurgents is now being used.

Ukraine Troops Move on Rebel Stronghold Defying Putin.....

Interior Ministry forces were dispatched at 4:30 a.m. local time to displace the militants from seized buildings and free hostages, including eight international monitors, minister Arsen Avakov said today on Facebook. Rebels responded with weapons including grenade launchers, shooting down a helicopter and killing one of its pilots, he said.

“They threw everything they had at us,” Igor Strelkov, a pro-Russian militia commander in the Donetsk region, where Slovyansk is located, said on Russia’s state-owned Rossiya 24 television. Slovyansk’s self-appointed mayor, Vyacheslav Ponomarev, had his mobile phone switched off when called by Bloomberg. Denis Pushilin, a leader of the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic, declined to comment immediately.....snip~

Russia has called for UNSC meeting.... maybe Article 51 is gonna be invoked.

Article 51:

Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defence shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security.

Western weirdoes have to be taught they can't overthrow elected governments in the Russian sphere of interest. What a lot of tedious old drivel it all is! The EU doesn't want the neo-nazis, any more than does the Ukrainian majority.

If you guys are watching the video link.. those in yellow arm bands are Right Sector.

Do you think he will jump while keeping the UNSC tied up in meetings? Yesterday our former Ambassador to NATO. Sounded off.

NATO official: Russia now an adversary.....

After two decades of trying to build a partnership with Russia, NATO now feels compelled to start treating Moscow as an adversary, the alliance's second-ranking official said Thursday.

"Clearly the Russians have declared NATO as an adversary, so we have to begin to view Russia no longer as a partner but as more of an adversary than a partner," said Alexander Vershbow, the deputy secretary-general of NATO.

"In central Europe, clearly we have two different visions of what European security should be like," Vershbow, a former U.S. diplomat and onetime Pentagon official, said. "We still would defend the sovereignty and freedom of choice of Russia's neighbors, and Russia clearly is trying to re-impose hegemony and limit their sovereignty under the guise of a defense of the Russian world."

In April, NATO suspended all "practical civilian and military cooperation" with Russia, although Russia has maintained its diplomatic mission to NATO, which was established in 1998.

The crisis over Ukraine and its implications for U.S. and NATO relations with Russia has become a major point of concern for top Obama administration officials, including Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, who spoke by phone Monday to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about Russia's intentions in Ukraine. Aides said Hagel was assured that Russia has no intention of invading.

Hagel is scheduled to speak Friday at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars on European security in the context of the Ukraine crisis and the deepening chill in relations with Moscow.....snip~

If it was me.. I would say.. we invoke Article 51, **** with us and we'll keep nuclear option on the table. That'll shut the US along with EU for long enough for Spenstaz will come out of the woodwork and get a division or two in and seal off the Eastern Ukraine.

Cant see anything in that vid. Is it bigfoot?

Yep, it was a cleanest video I was willing to put up to show the gun fights earlier today. You know keep it PG and not Rated Death and Destruction.

You guys have to watch the battle of Odessa. It's bloody and violent. Right Sector used a fire truck to break thru pro-Russian barricades. Gotta give Ukrainians credit, they are crafty little ****ers.

It's gonna be a blood bath after this is done.
