The Klingons perfected theirs to the point that they could even fire their weapons being cloaked. These aliens must be wimps. Afraid we’ll kick their butts.
They would be wise to not test us... Hopefully they will have watched documentaries about how we destroyed alien invaders such as documentaries like Battle Los Angeles, Predator and Independence Day.

Maybe they watched Signs, are extremely sensitive to water, and aren't morons like the aliens in Signs.

Well the military is about to testify to congress about what they have seen.

Will it be space aliens?
Or
The Russians and Chinese?

Which do they think will increase their budget appropriations the most?

Surely those fear controlled righties must build up our military to defend us from either.
Good. Because we know that we can truly trust the military to be honest.

That movie was pretty cool... until our defense was locking wooden doors with pieces of wood latches. Aliens can come to Earth and kidnap people without being detected but those ****ing wooden pantry doors were their downfall. LOL

I think you’re on to something there. We’ve kicked the butts of so many aliens it’s no wonder they would try to hide from us.

Their downfall is often so simple too... they travel across the galaxy with warp drive and ridiculously advanced cloaked ships with energy shields... but they forget to wear a mask when they get out of their ship and catch a virus that kills them all. It is the little things sometimes.

Lol. Yea, that little cold is too much for them to handle.

What I’m basically saying is that we can make up stuff like warp engines and travelling through wormholes and say aliens did something like that to get here but that doesn’t make for a reasonable argument.

Of course we don’t know everything and it may turn out that faster than light travel is possible and can actually be implemented by people who are smart enough and doesn’t break the bank energy wise but that’s the kind of “hand of god” argument that doesn’t bolster the case for alien travel because it relies way to much on “what if”.

Faster than light travel isn't necessary for aliens to get here.

No it isn’t. But traveling sublight is pretty inconvenient if you’re just going to check the place out.

It depends on what time means to you. If you are effectively immortal, it doesn't make much difference.

You can only do so many 1 Billion light year trips before the universe expands to nothingness...

UFOs are in the news lately. I have always thought that they were possibly of another world. Now there are some opining that maybe they‘re of this world. Possibly a military adversary or some ‘skunk works’ thing from our own country. What do you think?

There is only one correct answer to your question and you do not list it as an option in your poll.

We don't know.

Do not speak for me.

Perhaps. Though I’m not sure immortality equals patient. And in any case you could argue that an immortal race would be very risk averse after all if old age isn’t going to kill you eventually you probably don’t care for the idea of losing your immortality to a collision with a random rock in space. So maybe you’d prefer to send a probe.

Although on the other hand maybe living forever is boring and you can make a ton of money loading up a ship with thousands of thrill seeking aliens with a death wish and send them off to gawk at the primitives.

Who knows.

Who wooda ever thunk the report would say they were unexplainable and that there may or may not be aliens on another planet?

True but, the researchers generally don’t hide their existence. I’ve never understood why there are no clear pictures of these UFOs.
Some do.
It depends on the nature of the research and a determination of how the researchers presence affects the situation.
Wild life photographers use blinds all the time to record behavior.

True enough and maybe the comparison is not apt. Given what we know about physics today that kind of travel is horrendously expensive and there are probably cheaper ways to conduct research than sending people here.
As well any society capable of that kind of travel would also be capable of not letting us know they’re here.

Possibly.

Maybe your assumptions are wrong though.

I feel like there's not enough information to rule out much.

That I said, I find it unlikely that we're being visited by extraterrestrials.
Though, I lack a solid reason.

Good point. It’s why I chose to say “generally”. I have no expertise in field research but my common sense pov is that research of different species might require hiding because it’s known that that species is easily scared off. Mankind, generally, is curious and will investigate anomalies. I would think that by now any alien visitors would know this. Also capturing video feed would probably clue them into how to approach us to announce their arrival. All very strange behavior to try to avoid us for an advance entity.

What's strange or not strange very much depends on what's normal.

There're a lot of variables which could be different.
We only have ourselves and our imagination to compare with.

What seems like odd behavior to some humans is sensible to others.
The cultural differences between humans and extraterrestrial life forms could be even greater than the cultural differences among humans.

So, I am unable to give much weight to arguments which rely on me being able to suss out what's a likely action or reaction on the part of ETs.
I feel unable to say exactly what constitutes strange behavior for ETs.

My answer based on known facts is - "I don't know".

My answer based on speculative imagination would be, "All of the above and more".

Why must UFOs be travelling from distant places? Maybe they're travelling from distant times or distant alternative realities? Perhaps something very interesting happens in humanities future and these travellers/probes/sensory phenomena are here/now to understand the historical, cultural or biological roots of that interesting future event? The possibilities are endless and so many that choosing from them is impossible and thus the answer reverts once again back to "I don't know.".

Cheers and be well.
Nan-noo, Nan-noo! Live long and prosper! May the Force be with you. Klaatu Barada Nikto. Whale Song! Die human scum! etc.

Although “time travel” in movies have some entertainment value the concept never made much sense to me. It makes for an interesting topic of discussion (one I’ve had many times over - no pun intended), I don’t view it as an entity in itself but rather a construct of the mind to measure events. We can’t measure the future because it hasn’t occurred. At best, we can only predict (a function of the mind) possibilities. But if time could be traveled, as a time traveler I would prefer traveling through the future rather than the past.

Good thing you're time traveling to the future every moment.

Every moment is the present.
The current moment, but you're traveling from the present to the future. You can't travel from the present to the present, or you would end up in the past.

Which is not the future but the new present. We can only live in the present moment. We can only think about the past or future. Neither exists in reality.
