Coal should be long dead by this point. We need to embrace the atom.
Let me ask you what can be used to effectively ramp up and ramp down the power supply in the place of coal power plants? My guess is you don't know anything about how our power is provided, supplied, nor do you understand the need to even ramp up or ramp down the power provided. Nuclear power plants can't effectively ramp up and ramp down power needs like a coal plant can and almost all renewable energy is supplemental only and not reliable for big city power needs.
Coal should be long dead by this point. We need to embrace the atom.
Meanwhile all over the world they are building coal powered plants. Todays coal powered plants have never been cleaner EVER. But you did not know this because you listen to the boobtube and research how much of it exactly?

China & India Are Building 4 New Coal Power Plants – Every Week
Global demand for coal is expected to grow to 8.9 billion tons by 2016 from 7.9 billion tons this year. China is expected to add about 160 new coal-fired plants to the 620 operating now, within four years. During that period, India will add more than 46 plants.
Last summer, nearly half of India’s sweltering population suddenly found the electricity shut off. Air-conditioners whirred to a stop. Refrigerators ceased cooling. The culprits were outmoded power generation stations and a creaky electricity transmission grid.
Germany to Build Twenty Three New Coal-Fired Power Plants
Germany --(Ammoland.com)- It is amazing how biased the international media is when it comes to reporting on energy generation, specifically electricity.
In mid-August, Germany opened a new 2200MW coal-fired power station near Cologne, and virtually not a word has been said about it. This dearth of reporting is even more surprising when one considers that Germany has said building new coal plants is necessary because electricity produced by wind and solar has turned out to be unaffordably expensive and unreliable.
In a deteriorating economic situation, Germany’s new environment minister, Peter Altmaier, who is as politically close to Chancellor Angela Merkel as it gets, has underlined time and again the importance of not further harming Europe’s – and Germany’s – economy by increasing the cost of electricity.
He is also worried that his country could become dependent on foreign imports of electricity, the mainstay of its industrial sector. To avoid that risk, Altmaier has given the green light to build twenty-three new coal-fired plants, which are currently under construction.
Yes, you read that correctly, twenty three-new coal-fired power plants are under construction in Germany,
so tell me do you really the few we are closing will help the environment if they open the 200 or so i just posted? that is just from three countries.
when the lights start going off here maybe you will change your mind then?
My province has shut down all coal power plants in favour of nuclear and hydroelectric, it can work. If you really care that much burn natural gas. No matter what you do coal is the dirtiest form of energy you can get and it destroys the environment.
Nuclear is awesome until it melts down or it is time to dispose of the waste. Nuclear is way more dangerous for the planet. You sound like you live in canada am i right? you remember the acid rain debates? caused by the US?
Too bad in China you can't see across the street half the time. You can even see it in the U.S., it causes massive environmental damage. It is cleaner than ever but is still ****ing dirty.
China is wicked dirty but it is not from coal powered plants! it is because of all the OTHER industry they slave labor out to their citizens.
But again glad we went here:2wave:
remember the acid rain america was accused of causing?
yep those that was what mid 90's ?Nuclear is awesome and you don't have to care about meltdowns and the disposal of waste if you do it properly. You mean the debates that made Canada hate Republicans even more.
yep those that was what mid 90's ?
Where are all the warnings and fear mongering about acid rain in Russia. I mean we both agree china is the dirtiest place on earth.
one would thing the acid rain would be so bad russia and china be doing something about it.
All i could find was this old scare mongering article from 1984? really well that was when they started the fear over it.
ACID RAIN REPORTED OVER SOVIET UNION - NYTimes.com
But hey whatever, we are not even building any new nuclear power plants either. go figure
This is kind of an issue. If it rains, guess what is in the rain.

U.S. electricity prices may be going up for good - latimes.com
Experts warn of a growing fragility as coal-fired plants are shut down, nuclear power is reduced and consumers switch to renewable energy.

^ Germany is actually a perfect example of where we're headed in energy prices. Here I pay about 27 cents (USD) per KWh, comparing that with my home in Texas where we had ~8-9 cents (USD) per KWh.
So you are saying that in your grid there are absolutely NO coal power plants providing ANY type of power to it? Remember the grid isn't limited to your province.
FYI Hydroelectric does not provide ramping up or ramping down of power. I don't think you know didly about the power grid or what power gets to your grid and from what or where.
