The Labor Department said Friday that the unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent. It is expected to worsen later this year as discouraged workers re-enter the labor force.
...
But economists sounded a cautious note, pointing out that a sizable portion of the growth came from the government’s hiring of 48,000 census workers, mostly temporary jobs. There were clear signs, however, that the private sector was slowly gaining strength: over all, it added 123,000 jobs last month.
Come October you'll see tons of stimulus money flowing into states where Democrats of vulnerable. But hey, 162,000 more jobs is just marvelous isn't it?
Kind of "ho hum" - not much in the way of good news in the job report, but not much in the way of bad news, either.
I'm not sure I'd want to be tying a "stimulus is working" narrative to this humdrum.
There are 15 million people unemployed and you think "300k by summers end" is going to have everyone feeling rosy? The tone of the "Hannity followers" when job creation is in full effect will be priceless. If there is job creation in the tune of 300k by summers end, the "conservative victory tour" will be a wash out.
Obama needs more than 300,000 jobs to help his problem. That's nothing. The tone of the "Hannity followers" when job creation is in full effect will be priceless. If there is job creation in the tune of 300k by summers end, the "conservative victory tour" will be a wash out.
Sorry to piss on your wet blanket. No relevant economic comment; only your overstated opinion. Noted and not surprised.
Positive job growth in the tune of six figures is now considered "neutral"?
No it's not. We created jobs last November and in January. This is the first time in 2 years the economy has actually created new jobs.
Sorry to piss on your wet blanket.
The only people doing cartwheels over 162k jobs will be partisan leftists ecstatic that things haven't gotten worse for yet another month.
If you want to know what an economic turnaround looks like, try three years of consistent job gains averaging somewhere between 250 and 300k a month. Since our first job gains last November, we're averaging what? 23k?

I'll get the word out on the street to the 15 million people without jobs that they should be celebrating. Thanks.Three Years of consistent job gains make sense in a healthy economy.
With an economy that is suffering from all sorts of Pig diseases, you should be celebrating a monthly gain of 23k.
I know nothing of job growth derivtives, and neither do the 15 millon people without jobs who will be voting in November. How familiar are you with job growth ratios in regards to economic recoveries? More importantly, are you aware of the the how derivative of job growth behaves as its slope turns positive?
