WASHINGTON—The Navy confirmed Tuesday that it didn’t send one of its aircraft carriers directly toward North Korea amid growing tensions with Pyongyang, despite representations by President Donald Trump and his top defense advisers that it was on its way.

In fact, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was thousands of miles away on exercises off the northwest coast of Australia and likely won’t arrive near the Korean Peninsula until sometime next week.".."

WASHINGTON — Just over a week ago, the White House declared that ordering an American aircraft carrier into the Sea of Japan would send a powerful deterrent signal to North Korea and give President Trump more options in responding to the North’s provocative behavior. “We’re sending an armada,” Mr. Trump said to Fox News last Tuesday afternoon.

The problem was that the carrier, the Carl Vinson, and the 3 other warships in its strike force were that very moment sailing in the Opposite direction, to take part in joint exercises with the Australian Navy in the Indian Ocean, 3,500 miles southwest of the Korean Peninsula.

White House officials said Tuesday that they had been relying on guidance from the Defense Department. Officials there described a glitch-ridden sequence of events, from an ill-timed announcement of the deployment by the military’s Pacific Command to a partially erroneous explanation by the defense secretary, Jim Mattis — all of which perpetuated the False narrative that a flotilla was racing toward the waters off North Korea...

This is, of course, entirely in line with why Trump supporters sent him to Washington.

Three years and eight months to go.

The stupid... it's hilarious. While also being very scary.

If this was a chapter from a Louis de Bernières novel, it would be funny (sort of). This is real life, ergo it's not funny.

If there's something you can do about it, why worry about it?
If there's nothing you can do about it, why worry about it?

Dali Lama (paraphrased from memory)

It's kind of out of our hands at this point.

"Comforting."

It should be said at this point that anybody who votes for Republicans in special elections is voting for our President to lose aircraft carrier fleets.

I hope that's not the case. I have a naval nephew in that mix right now.

The good news is that the present administration probably has no idea where he is.

What sux for him is he was due to port in Australia and got rerouted. He told me a while back that Australia was his most favorite port in the whole world.

Can't say I blame him. Can anybody honestly say that they hung out with Australians and didn't have a great time?

Does anyone ever wonder who is giving him this information? I mean he doesn't just make it up, someone is telling him they are/will sending the carrier, and then doesn't send it? Before calling me a Trumpeteer or whatever cute names out there, can you just think about this for a second? People say how dumb he is right? So you're then going to accept that he came up with this idea on his own? It almost appears like they keep setting him up. I just don't buy it.

Why would you believe that it was undesirable to shake the tree? It is only important that it becomes clear to China that it can no longer allow its client to prepare weapons to threaten its neighborhood with nuclear destruction. Of course, it should be the UN to enforce protection of regional populations. But it has not done that nor has China. So this seems okay. Everyone is concentrated on the problem.

Why do you say "lie" when it was obviously a mistake? He was told the carrier was going by someone right? Either that or your saying he is smart enough to make the whole thing up to intentionally deceive us.

No it more likely that the fool does not take his information from government sources but what ever the far right web/news sites happen to be putting out that day.

And there was a far right web/news site that was reporting we were sending a carrier towards N Korea?

Well let's look at facts

FACT- his DoD is a former Marine General- he doesn't know the bow of a carrier from it's stern???

Fact- Trump just makes silly, easy to debunk crap up. from crowd size, to how big his election win was. It isn't 'smart' to make up crap that is easy to disprove. pathological liar perhaps, but not 'smart enough' by anyone's yardstick... :peace

The Pentagon throws out misinformation all the time for a variety of reasons, but mainly to see how a certain region reacts to the message.

This could be one of those situations.

Wink Wink.......and doh!

You're missing my point, but whatever.

Wink Wink.... and :doh

Actually twelve dayze ago Pentagon issued an order to sink the Japanese Imperial Fleet. Secret cables show Potus will then demand to General Tojo that Japan surrender immediately and unconditionally. Or U.S. will use a new secret weapon by which one single bomb destroys an entire city.

Potus has prepared the following Tweet expected any moment now: "If the Empire of Japan does not surrender immediately and unconditionally it will experience a rain of ruin from the skies never before seen in the history of mankind."

Sounds serious as all hell dont it.
