U.S. and China agree to slash reciprocal tariffs in major step toward easing trade war

Considering that we buy a whole of more of their stuff than they buy of ours the tariff is set correctly. We need to encourage USA consumers to buy from somewhere else. Also even if you do buy Chinese, it funds our goverment. I mean... somebody has to fund it. You can't just soak the rich forever. Or can you?
Where do you think those funds come from? Are you one of those that still thinks China pays the tariffs Trump imposes on imports?
What you're advocating is increased taxation and government interference in the marketplace. And it's futile.

What great benefit do I or any other American get from finding our Federal government especially in this manner, dmpi?
Instead of the rich and successful paying insane income taxes they can use that money to invest in domestic companies so consumers have more options to buy American. This will bring growth and prosperity to all Americans.

It depends…What exactly did everyday Americans get out of this besides a 30% price hike on most of our consumer goods?
Well, he's got the right demographic paying higher prices for his Daughter's goodie. Americans should be happy knowing their sacrifice is worth it.

😂😂😂

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Here we have someone that still believes the “trickle down” fiction Reagan sold Americans.

These are antiques - you don’t often see them around anymore.

Good news. Hopefully this shifts some production away from China.
I have a 100% trade deficit with my grocery store. Perhaps if I were to spend some of the time and energy that I would otherwise be devoting to my career, I could grow enough of my own food to offset the trade deficit I have with my grocery store...

That is the kind of absurd logic trade war proponents are engaging in. Point being, there is nothing wrong with a trade deficit. The average American enjoys levels of income, discretionary income, and a lifestyle that the rest of the world is envious of. If we actually end up ahead once this is all said and done, then great, all the credit will go to Trump, but I would be astounded if any of this results in any measurable positive impacts to US GDP or the trade deficit. Moreover, electronics and chips have been excluded from the initial tarrifs - which are what we would actually want to onshore or nearshore. Who cares if we produce cheap trinkets and plastic toys in America again - in fact, that would be de-developing our economy.

In your dreams.

It's another 90 day pause. This may go on for the next three and half years.

With those Rose Tinted glasses, are you confused when approaching intersections?

America is not going to start manufacturing widgets for peanuts in complete denial of all things Sam Walton already researched to death.

Your unremitting demand to ding your credit cards at lessor rates for those new toasters is what got you here and what will KEEP you here.

"Here" being still unable to afford the phony "superior" lifestyle you've been faking for decades.

Yep.

Second verse, worse than the first.

The world has to endure the whims and fantasies of a demented old man and his cult that slurps up whatever shit spews from him.

I hear yah. I used the exact same analogy when Biden put tariffs on aluminum and steel... it was hilarious to watch low information people try to defend it.

But 60 cents tax, that funds roads and Healthcare and services on a 2 dollar plastic toy also doesn't bother me too much.

The government opened the door but it's meaningless if suppliers don't buy the beef. Price competitive American beef has antibiotics and hormones both prohibited in GB. So that leaves the much more expensive hormone and antibiotic free beef. We'll see if it can compare with the same quality beef coming from Ireland. I personally have doubts it will sell well but it sounds good on the surface. Trade is complex.
US beef exports have to be hormone free to sell to Great Britain ..indeed it's "complex"

Yeah - real complex - don’t use hormones if you want to sell in that market 🙄

Why do you present all these unsupported assertions. It's an insane rationale

So Trump is relaizing he has lost the trade wars and is now caving. Why am I not surprised.

In an easing the US-China Trade War, tariffs will temporarily drop for 90 days

However under the current agreement, American citizens will be paying a 30% tax on imported goods - while Chinese citizens will only be paying a 10% tax.

Is this a good deal for American citizens?
That remains to be seen. This trade war started near the end of the Biden Administration. After Biden imposed mammoth new tariffs in September, China retaliated by imposing export restrictions on drone parts. Biden responded with export restrictions to Chinese chip manufacturers. China then responded with export restrictions on antimony, gallium, and germanium and placed Nvidia under “investigation” for violating anti-monopoly laws. It’s been escalating ever since.

As you pointed out, this is a temporary reprieve/good will gesture to start the process of hammering out a final deal. We’ll have to wait and see what that deal looks like.

The reason I mentioned this is becasue under the revised NAFTA the US could export dairy to Canada but it had to be antibiotic and hormone free. In the 6 years the US has never been able to reach the threshold because the US product that meets are criteria was way to expensive.

Why? They're producing the most inexpensive goods around. And the quality has gone up.
Because they are literally our enemy? Funding their economy so they can build a military to invade Taiwan seems silly.

Others might disagree. I'm not against cheap shit from China; it just seems like there are better options for Democracy and the planet.

Either way, we will now be buying more stuff from China, because it is cheaper than it was before today.

You know what could fund American domestic initiatives?

Not continuing to cut taxes for the rich EVERY SINGLE TIME the GOP gets in power.

Every time in my lifetime - we cut taxes for the riches and EVERY SINGLE TIME the middle class gets f*cked.

And EVERY SINGLE TIME the GINI coefficients for wealth disparity and wage stagnation increases.

But hey…THIS time is MAGICALLY going to do the same thing and magically yield a different result 🙄

Lowering taxes has this effect.

Trump just lowered taxes people pay on Chinese goods. He also tried to raise them, but people got mad.

I am pretty pro tax; it seems to work, but people don't like paying them, for sure.
