Two men have been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for attempting to traffic a truck full of arms to Mexico from the U.S.
The men, Esteban Rios Reyes and Alex Santos Lopez, pleaded guilty to the charges. They were found guilty of being part of an organization trafficking weapons, according to court testimony seen by Border Report.
The incident that led to their detention took place in September 2023 when Santos sought to drive a truck towing a utility trailer from Texas to Mexico. However, an outbound inspection led to the discovery of hundreds of firearms and magazines, as well as over 1,500 rounds of ammunition.

M'kay...I have a huge problem with this; hundreds of firearms being smuggled....and only 7 years?

C'mon legislators; you want to put a dent in weapons smuggling to Mexico, you have to make it painful for the smugglers instead of letting foreign nations waste our Judicial resources trying to sue legitimate US firearms manufacturers.

Pass some legislation that hits violent firearms offenders as well.... we should never hear about 3- or 4-time weapons felons being set loose on the streets. Stop banning firearms and start banning criminals.

Give em 25 and make it stick.

Everybody knows most of the weapons used by Central American drug cartels are made in the USA.

I'm surprised maga didn't want to sentence those guys by forcing them to accept a Nobel Prize.

Changing the laws to increase penalties won't change DAs' abilities to plea bargain.

Naturally, it is pure speculation that in this particular case the DA got info on 'higher ups'.

Happens all the time. Crossing ports go both ways, and the Customs and Border Protection inspects both ways. Especially for firearms headed for Mexico.
