Blond, blue-eyed, and speaking perfect English, the Islamist militant was one of the leaders in the attack that took place on January 16 that resulted in the deaths of 38 hostages and 29 assailants. The identity of the “blond jihadist” was disclosed by Canadian public television channel CBC, which located him in the peaceful city of London, Ontario.
His name is Xristos Katsiroubas, a 24 year-old from a Greek Orthodox family, who converted to Islam while in high school.

From ‘friendly and tolerant’ to detached
While at London South Secondary School, Katsiroubas became friends with Ali Medlej, another Canadian jihadist killed in the attack.

--snip--

The CBC journalists’ investigation has also raised questions about the role of Canada's intelligence service, known as the CSIS, which had the two young men on their radar as of 2007 and had questioned their families and friends.
Canadian authorities then presumably lost track of Katsiroubas and Medlej – or stopped their surveillance operations – and their departure abroad went unnoticed.
CSIS agents resumed questioning the families and friends of the two Canadian jihadists two months after the attack on In Amenas, without explaining why or indicating that they were dead.Link

Thoughts?

Islam is not an ethnic thing. It's a religion.

It doesn't matter what color skin the muslim extremist has. It matters that he is a muslim extremist. I get what France24 does. It's a pathetic attempt really... but they are the mouthpiece of the socialist French government (and I mean socialists because they are the Socialist party)... and the government is full of cowards who are terminally tolerant muslim apologists and recently, their popularity has sunk below the Titanic while the far right nationalist movement, fronted by Le Pen, is gaining more and more ground. Now, that's not the only reason, but it is one of them. Anyway... as I said, muslim extremists can be of all races.

My thoughts are that those who convert to Islam from a culture other than that Islamic have a psychological profile that says they are searching for an identity or cause. Having found one, their zealotry and idealism can be turned quite easily into something destructive.

Some thoughts of Canadians are at the bottom of this news story. While the media tries to be PC most Canadians apparently don't feel the same way and bash the PC argument out of the park.

They have been aware of this phenomenon for over 100 years. Nazis found it very easy to turn Communists, Fascists, etc. to their cause and Communists found the same thing with other 'dissidents'.

People dissatisfied with their own lives often need an external cause to blame for their unhappiness and feel they have the intellectual capacity. along with their leaders, to make the world right. Sure, a lot of people might have to die in the process but in the end, when the smoke clears, the world will be a far better place. These people also imagine themselves in a position of some authority when the new millennium takes place, or perhaps remembered in some other glorious ways.

Kinda like joining a gang.

almost all religions take their source from some values and social norms which are involved in the culturel life of the societies in which those religions are born

quran is full of concepts that belong to only ancient arabians ,but believers accept this as holy book and adapt themselves and their culture to this new religion

for instance ancient turks used to show a great respect to women who had an important role in every part of the life

l am not saying women are treated as inferior in Quran but many verses in Quran contradict our own traditions

but if it comes to islamism , it mostly derives from so called ancient traditions and hadiths which are believed to be practised and uttered during Muhammed .the followers of those islamist sects even ignore the Quran verses and tend to obey those so called hadiths which dictate them to kill innocents ,stone women to death ,isolate women from teh rest of the society etc..

Here's a taste of irony: the guy's name was Xristos Katsiroubas.

Xristos, of course, means Christ.

The guy was an Islamic jihadist.

I know I could look this up, but isnt Jesus refered to as Ian or something in the Koran?

every religion is mine

i wish many agreed with me

Really you just dont know much good about it.
That's not likely, Medusa, especially with a religion like islam. There's not much good you can say about it.

There are many things in this world we can thank Islam for.

I don't its intricacies the way you might do but what I do know is that it tends to breed ignorance on a very large scale.

Great! What recent accomplishments should we be grateful for?

I'm certainly willing to hear something positive to what otherwise would appear to be a very backward belief system.
