Two African nations allied with Vladimir Putin have refused to allow Russian troops to station on their territory, further complicating the Russian president's geopolitical standing after losing a key ally in Syria with Bashar al-Assad’s ousting.
Sudan has officially rejected the construction of a naval base on the Red Sea coast in the city of Port Sudan. This was reported by the Moscow Times on December 18, citing a source within Sudanese intelligence.
Russia had reportedly offered S-400 anti-aircraft systems to sway the decision in its favor, but Sudan declined, fearing potential Western sanctions.
Following this setback, Russia turned its attention to Libya, but the Libyan authorities also shut the door on the proposal.

Trying hard to find another warm water overseas naval base....

Aren’t the Syrians open to the Russians keeping control of Tartus?

Pile of junk proven by the Ukrainians. Russia would have to pay countries to take these missiles at the moment.

I have two suspicions
1) Wagner's role in and around Sudan has won Russia no favours or friends.
2) China is a huge investor in Sudan and wants any bases for itself. China pretty much has the upper hand in Russo-Sino relations and she does not want Russia involved.

The Putin simps will cry about this being another example of Western interference, while being completely oblivious to the irony of it all.
Putin better be careful. He may find an unwelcome visitor at his residence in the middle of the night. You know how the Russians work.

Don't know; I have yet to see anything that states for certain the Russians are staying in Syria.

The article literally says the Sudanese refused because they didn’t want to face Western sanctions while in the middle of fighting the Janjaweed—gee, you remember the week or so people in the West pretended to care about their actions?

The irony of Western apologists trying to posture about Putin when America is openly trying to bully Panama into handing the Canal over is just too damn funny.

I never said the Western Powers weren't involved (of course they are). I am saying the Putin simps will cry about and fail to realize the irony and their own hypocrisy.

Thank you for proving my point.

What is really hypocritical is the West’s apologists crying about Putin when they continued to prove themselves the exact same, if not actively worse.

And funny how you, Mr. “I condemn the West’s bad behavior too!” hasn’t, as far as I can tell, said a single word of condemnation about America’s open attempts to bully Panama into giving up the canal, shrieking about a phantom “Chinese garrison” shaking down the U.S. or whatever.

I was a major critic of America's War in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I guarantee you a far greater critic than you ever were of Putin and his war in Ukraine.

Holy shit, you actually think I support Trump's rhetoric over Panama? :ROFLMAO:

lol sure you were dude. You know, it’s fascinating how the war in Iraq could have ever started given 99 percent of Americans now claim they vehemently opposed it all along, and never mind all those post 9/11 torture and war crime celebrations ;)

It reminds me of the old stereotype about how nobody in Germany would admit voting for Adolf.

Gee, given you haven’t managed to condemn America’s open bullying even once as of yet—spending all your time crying about “campists” and Russia and blah blah blah—I simply don’t believe the narrative you are frantically trying to spin.

I've been antiwar since high school, dude. Been a leftist since college. So yes, of course I was against the neocon agenda. But keep trying to paint a fake reality so you feel better about your Putin apologism.

You are flailing so hard. You campists and tankies are the center of maybe 10% of my posts (and that's generous).

lol suuuuree you have dude. That’s why all your arguments are typical “I oppose every conflict except the one America is currently cheering on” every time.

Dude, half the neocons were Trotskyists converted to the glory of the “American hegemony”.

Me pointing out that for all your hysterical sputtering about Putin you really don’t seem to have any sort of issue with imperialism as long as America is doing it is still very much intact, actually.

Hate to burst your bubble.

And btw, proudly bragging about how America only cares about the bloody civil war in Sudan in order to try and mess with Russia paints a rather clear picture of what garbage the U.S. narrative is ;)

Where did I say I oppose 'every conflict?' I oppose idiotic and unnecessary conflicts like the one we had in Iraq.

I support aide to Ukraine because they are a sovereign nation that was invaded. You are a Putin apologist who makes excuses for his mass murder. You are not the good guy here.

Okay, What's your point?

Me pointing out that for all your hysterical sputtering about Putin

To be clear, you are talking about the man responsible for hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

you really don’t seem to have any sort of issue with imperialism as long as America is doing it is still very much intact, actually.

Supporting an ally in a time of need is not imperialism.

So no, you don’t actually have an issue with the U.S.’ openly imperialist actions in any way. Good to know.

Denmark is supposedly a U.S. ally. Canada is supposedly a U.S. ally. Panama is supposedly a US friendly state at the very least since America finally got tired of supporting the literal drug dealer we propped up in charge of the country there.

Is there a particular reason why you fantasize the U.S. bad behavior across the globe in dozens of other countries should somehow be negated by the U.S. sending vehicles into the stalemate in Ukraine?

Nobody who defends the U.S. has any room to talk about “good guys” given America is actively aiding and abetting a mass murder campaign in Gaza every bit as bad as anything Russia is currently doing.

So there have been plenty of “leftists” who happily endorsed American war crimes. That’s not a defense for you.

To be clear, America’s leaders have been every bit as bad as Putin, if not actively worse. Those “double tap” strikes? Pioneered by America in Afghanistan, for example.

And that isn’t even getting into, once again, the fact that the U.S. is actively trying to bully Panama into giving up the Cansl and is threatening to invade Mexico.

Hmm. The way America has been treating Denmark pretty clearly shows the idea the U.S. at all cares about its “allies” to be a outright lie, first off.

And secondly, explain, in detail, how the U.S. plotting to seize the Canal is not imperialism, for example.

Thinking Pro vs. Con. There's no pro for having a Russian military base on your soil unless it comes with cold hard cash. And who needs that when all you have to do is talk about your starving kids and the west will show up with checkbook in hand.

Not the reality. The French recently pulled out of Mali and Niger.

Both Sudan and Libya has more than one government, so it might be as one government says no, Russia just asks the other government. For example the Libyan government asked was the Tripoli government (the internationally recognized government), but there is also Haftar's government in eastern Libya, that Russia tend to get along with better.
