In 2016 and 2018, Trump used the immigrant caravans as a way to instill fear. Imagine all those 'criminals and rapists' coming into our country! But that was a fear that was far-removed from the average American citizen. People that live in Pennsylvania, Alaska, New Hampshire or Idaho had no reason to fear immigrants in a caravan. It worked with those states bordering Mexico and the US.

Now the average 'suburban housewife' is seeing fires set in dumpsters, broken windows in businesses, and graffiti being sprayed on the sides of a federal building, and those places are closer to their suburban white homes. This is more closely connected with the average American.

When the African-American community said "Enough! You have to listen to our problems, you have to hear our voices!", it presented a major problem for Trump. He had to turn this around and prey on the same fears of the average white American household. Suddenly this country is being thrust into the fear of the fallout of protests and have forgotten all about the causes of these protests. Now the cause of the BLM movement is being overshadowed and the fear factor of this movement is being shifted to fears of the movement by Donald Trump. "don't look over there -- look at this over here instead".

Every government in history that has been overthrown, is a reward of utilizing the fear factor as a weapon to wrestle control from a government. It has won over seats of governments, it has replaced presidents and monarchs. Fear has been a 'tried and true' weapon proven to be the most useful in the arsenal of would-be dictators and authoritarian governments for centuries. Apparently it's still working with many Americans. Donald Trump never listened to those voices, never cared what their complaints are. His only motivation is winning and keeping his base.
