Turkey was one of the countries they want involved in taking down ISIS.....as you can see getting Turkey to do something will be a major problem for us. Hagel is there today. How do you think this affects BO's coalition before it even really starts?

As President Obama speaks of a campaign against ISIL that could last years, the role of Turkey is coming into focus as critics accuse the American ally and NATO partner with aiding ISIL's growth.

After all, Ankara is partly to blame for ISIL’s rise. The Erdogan government long ago decided to support the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Ankara allowed opposition fighters from all sides easy access to the battlefield. None were too brutal or radical to bar passage. This included ISIL, which gained strength and resources by conquering Syrian territory. Reported the Washington Post: “eager to aid any and all enemies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Turkey rolled out the red carpet.” The government simply looked the other way as members of the Islamic State and other Islamist groups traveled to Syria." .....snip~

so is this because Erdogan wants to oust Assad, or because of "easy access " to the battlefield?
I know of Syrian refuges, and FSA types that exited to turkey,,what I'm not sure of is the "easy access" by the WAPO snip?

can you clarify/link?

Well, to me it seems like Turkey wants to have its cake and eat it too. Easy access was due to Turkey allowing the MB backed Rebels to set up a CP inside Turkey. Which then they were able to run back over into Turkey for Protection. Strike and flee and hide inside Turkey. Like it says.....Erdogan rolled out the Red Carpet for any that wanted to remove Assad. Yet Erdogan still had the nerve to say Assad had been a friend. With Friends like Erdogan.....who needs enemies.

Turkey to Play Role in Fight Against Islamic State

Turkey is seeking specific roles in a U.S.-led coalition to battle Islamic State fighters, U.S. Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel said after talks with Turkish leaders on Monday, without revealing details. Turkey was the only Muslim nation in a "core coalition" of 10 countries which met on the sidelines of a NATO summit last week. Any role it plays may be limited by a host of concerns, including fears for 46 Turkish hostages held by the militants.

"Today’s meetings were a reaffirmation, clearly, of Turkey's commitment to be part of this effort, to destroy ISIL and everything that ISIL represents," Hagel said after talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and other leaders. Commenting on Turkey's future participation, Hagel said: "They want to play roles, specific roles. They will play those." "Those will be articulated by the Turkish government - not by me - when that decision is made," he added.....snip~

Is Hagel really that dumb? They want to play roles, specific roles which they will articulate? Does that sound like BO is leading with a Coalition?

thanks for the clarification re: safe crossing back into Turkey. It looks like it has to be a "build it and they will come" coalition -
get the players committed, and then their roles.
Honestly I'm fine with Obama's 'leading from behind' (sic) - just get it done - we should have been bombing in open deserts months ago,
but at least finally - at Obama type 'speed' - maybe getting this started

Turkey needs to close down the Smugglers route that ISIS is using to move their diesel. Which we and others should already be on Turkey about doing so. Not waiting for the Coalition. We don't need anyone But Turkey to start with that which is called.....Effort.

Good evening MMC - hope all is well

As for Turkey, let's not forget that ISIL, ISIS, IS or whatever they're calling themselves these days, was/is doing the Turkish government a favour by occupying the Kurds in northern Iraq and keeping them from organizing their independence vote which is seen by many as a threat and potentially destabilizing in Turkey's large Kurdish population.

The middle east is a weave of competing interests both among countries and within countries themselves.

about the only thing I'm sure of is a Kurdistan coming out of this.
This time they are just going to take it, and no one is going to stop them

I heard they were voting in Iraq.....to decide to be part of the Iraq government or not.

Also with Turkey.....I was wondering if he had got his people out from their Capture by ISIS. Now we know he never did. Yet we haven't heard about any Turks getting their heads cut off either.

Greeting, CJ. :2wave:

The Programme I have on the Middle East seems to be a bit outdated - how do I get an updated copy so I am current on who hates who? If it requires a subscription, I'm willing to go up to one year, depending on cost.

Good morning Lady P.

Even if you had a programme, it would be out of date by tomorrow. I can't imagine living my life with so much raw emotion governing everything I do yet that seems to be how people in the ME live their lives.

In Iraq? Kerry said it was major milestone with them forming a Unity government.

Kerry Says New 'Unity' Government in Iraq Is a 'Major Milestone'

Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday hailed the formation of a new "unity" government in Iraq as a "major milestone" in the nation's battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Iraq's parliament approved what Kerry said was a " new and inclusive government" under the leadership of its recently appointed prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, although it left two critical security posts unfilled.....snip~

meant Turkey.Iraq fits too.

We'll see on unitary governing - I Srly wonder if it's possible, or if Iraq will just self partition. I can't see the Kurds voting to stay either..

Heya AT. :2wave: The new Shia leader assures all.....he will address the Sunni's needs. Either way we need to take a harder stance with Turkey. Lets not forget That Erdogan does luv him some Muslim Brotherhood ass. Likes to fund those terrorists as well as others.

Your mess , your problem... deal with it!

Turkey has enough problems, thanks to Usa!

Try again.....Turkey has some problems due to them allowing terrorists to smuggle their Oil thru Turkey. Moreover Turkey allowed the MB backed rebels a CP and to operate out of their country.

Then to top it off.....Turkey backs the Muslim Brotherhood. Time for Turkey to stop aiding and abetting terrorists. Otherwise they could end up on someone's dinner table.

I think you should read more rather than keeping people like me busy with informing you about the current situation and the reasons and potential results of it.

..typical usa citizen!

As I mentioned elsewhere, by 1065 the Turkish muslims took control of Jerusalem, and slaughtered Christians, Jews and pagans, showing no mercy, and they were of the Sunni variety, having setup their own caliphate, all of which led to the Knights Templar organizing to fight back.

Thanks KC. :2wave: I am aware of the history.....but as the piece stated. Turkey pretty much allowed any to go and fight Assad.

The same speech was delivered in middle age by the church, it seems for some nothing's changed since then!

The approach of the Turks to non-muslims is more different than others, even when christians were killings jews, the Turks sent ships to rescue them, just as The same Turks did it against Nazi Germany in the middle of highly christian populated Europe.

The Ottoman millet system is worth studying for those who want to learn more.

Yes and just before that the Italians killed Jezus, damn murderous Christ hating infidel Italians..

You should visit Turkey, it changed a lot since 1065, it's so nice and tolerant to everybody that I spend my summers in the Turkish sun enjoying Turkish hospitality.
