Will the House of Representatives soon subpoena Trump's tax returns?

Probably, but I doubt it will go very far... other than fanning the flames for those that both support Trump no matter what and those that do not support Trump no matter what.

Looks like the House Ways and Means Committee will try to do so.
May wind up before SCOTUS (where Bart K, the overly partisan Federalist society Partisan, will get the last laugh?)

There are a metric ton of complains, civil, and maybe criminal investigations ongoing all have to do with Trump finances, his charities, emoluments clauses, etc., so the pretext is obvious, and a mile long, let's not act like it's some big mystery. Looks like if they find really serious stuff, they can also bring it to the full House, and get those portions released to the public.

Why? What will be the pretext?

Since most Americans have never seen a President refuse to submit his tax returns for public scrutiny...it was never known by the American people that Congress could subpoena a President's returns in the first place. ...never was a need.

Right now Trump has an Emoluments case against him moving forward. Congress is well within their purview to investigate the claims against Donald Trump. Trump's tax returns are important documents to that case.

That is a why would the house subpoena Trump's tax records?

How can you not know why they would do this? Trump's up to his eyeballs in investigations and ethics complaints about emoluments, possible ties to Russian financing, etc. They can pick a handful of those, they have more than enough reason to.
They will play it carefully though, they are well aware that they have only a small foothold right now, and that it's all ripe for blowback.

Trump will rant and rave and point the finger as always...some things we can be sure of.

Oh. Have tax returns which may be a part of a court case ever been withheld by a prospective presidential candidate? Trump's people say that's the pretext for withholding the returns. BTW, what's the pretext for demanding Trump's tax returns?

Then change the law, and make it not an option. But right now, people do have the option, and he is choosing to not disclose.

You can be mad at him, and berate him, but that doesn’t give Congress the right to subpoena them

Or don’t you believe in the rule of law?

I would assume so but why stop at only that elective federal office holder? It seems a bit hypocritical not to make all elected federal officials' FIT returns public - real financial disclosure by the entire DC ruling elite would be welcomed. It would seem that the writers of the tax code should be proud of its results and offer themselves as prime examples of its 'fairness'.

Trumps answer;

@realDonaldTrump Following Following @realDonaldTrump More If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!

I thought Mueller was investigating this.

Trump's tax returns are not classified material. The US Treasury is in possession of that information. Congress is not require to ask the Supreme Court for what warrant has been used to get that information.

House committee could request the return of Mnuchin to be reviewed in private.

There is a 1924 law. That does not bode well for the SC deciding this as conservatives do not like to go against written law to make judges make laws.

Side note: I think most Americans want a congress that will work together TO GET SOMETHING DONE. That remains to be seen. If not, there will be a groundswell to throw them out in 2020.

Kinda putting the cart before the horse aren't you?. The new Congress has even been seated yet.

repubs won the senate again, dems won the house. if the dems want to continue their witch hunt thats fine...but the senate will fire back with their own investigations. it will be a 360 degree of stupid.

if you thought our congress was useless before...watch how little they are about to accomplish

Where did I mention anything about the need to change laws, or about Trumps obviously sketchy choice of not making them pubilc to begin with?
Nowhere.
So why are you acting like you're' rebutting me on that? You're not.

The House already has the legal power to subpoena his tax records and to make portions public if they so choose. He may fight it, it may got to SCOTUS.

Once again, who said anything about "breaking laws"? No one.

Unfortunately for Donald is that he has little say in the matter.

Trump better spend Winter Break hiring a crap load of lawyers...he's gonna need them
