Trump's tariffs will reduce deficit by $4 trillion

Trump's tariffs will reduce the deficit by $4 trillion, but thats over the 2025-2035 period.
This according to the Congressional Budget Office (CB), which is not thought to be a friend of Republican presidents or Congress.

I suspect the corresponding slowdown in economic activity caused by tariffs will result in a net increase in the deficit.

You sort of have to applaud how Trumps handlers have organised this. First they pass their BBBill which will transfer more money from the poor to the rich. The estimated cost is around the $4T mark in terms of increasing the deficit. So then they pass tariffs (without congress because the GOP congress have no spines left), which they promptly announce will reduce the deficit by approx that same $4T. What they then work really hard to hide is that import tariffs are a tax on US consumers. While the import businesses and exporters might pay some of the tariffs initially, they aren't going to permanently accept lower margins. All they are doing is temporarily mitigating consumer price shocks as they gradually get consumers used to the higher prices, and return to the margins that they need to be viable businesses.

So what is really happening is that the already wealthy get additional wealth from the BBB tax cuts, and the low income earners who spend nearly all their income to survive will pay for the impact on the deficit through the new import tariffs. The whole game is just a massive wealth transfer from the poor to the wealthy, in a country that already has a huge wealth disparity problem compared to the rest of the developed world. And somehow, through the massive amount of lies and deceptions, the maga poor think that this is good for them because Trump loves them. Talk about allowing yourself to be played!!!!

I dont think its going to be the disaster everybody's making it out to be

Really, do you think these are good for Canada?

Whose side are you on, Trump or your fellow Canadians?

"Hormel said it's planning to take 'targeted pricing actions' as higher commodity input costs hurt its latest quarter and were expected to weigh on profitability for the rest of the year..."

Huh. Price increases due directly to tariffs increasing production costs? Who could possibly have guessed?

🤷‍♂️

1. Those job losses are a minor correction.
2. I'm on the side of Trump, cause I plan on retiring in Florida 🌞

Incredibly optimistic. It’s barely begun and prices are already on the rise. Hope you weren’t unhappy with prices under Joe for the last couple years because America consented to less spending power by electing Tariff man. I expect our money to go to government spending and the debt will continue to increase as always.

There's good news too

Mostly we hear about all the cool stuff that's gonna happen as we slide into authoritarian rule.

Think for a minute. If exporters are charged more money to send their goods to the US, what happens to the price of goods?
What happens is we finally start paying off the loans we continually take against our deficit/debt.

I mean, look at this as a tax increase to pay for the things government always overpays for.

A tax to not have to manufacture here. I guess that ain't happening.

That's an answer to a question that I didn't ask.
If you guys want to pretend that Trump didn't base a large portion of his campaign on prices! and criminal illegals! be my guest. Doesn't change the facts though.

Would you tell to the workers who got let go from jobs that to their faces?

That seems a little treasonous, selling out your fellow Canadians to a foreign leader. Maybe you should leave now if you hate Canada so much.

1. Dumb question.
2. Where did I say I hate Canada??
Its hard to take you Lefties seriously when you constantly twist our words around

I put the chance of that happening slightly above zero.

There is a possibility that the tariffs won't hurt the former middle class as much as people think. We should consider the possibility that the manufacturers, importers and retailers will simply eat the cost indefinitely.

Now yeah, in a free market that's ridiculous. They obviously can't. But when was the last time you spotted a free market outside the zoo? It might be that the price-fixers who (for the third or fourth time) raised the prices of all the butter but a few store brands to $6 ... might also have a hand in setting prices of imported goods.

Basically, there are two models of the economy. One is the thing the Libertarians preach at you. The other is more like today's Gaza, with a tight-knit group of rich people titrating the costs of things so that you have access to just about exactly the amount of stuff they want you to have access to.

In the next six months we'll see which model is more accurate.

You are willing to a choose a foreign leader over your fellow Canadians, what is that love for Canada?

I see Trump supporters saying Americans who disagree with them are traitors and hate America and should leave. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Do you support Trump backstabbing Canadian vets?

Would you stop the whining FFS. The tariffs arent going to be the end of the world for Canada.
Yes there might be a bit of inflation and some layoffs, but Canada will survive (and eventually thrive) regardless

Trump putting us in a recession for no good reason is something to be concerned about and you have not articulated how this will make Canada thrive.

I am well within my rights to question your patriotism if you choose a foreign leader over your fellow Canadians.
