President Donald Trump on Tuesday night launched a surprise push to hike the stimulus checks in the COVID-19 relief package to $2,000 per person from $600. Democrats cheered his demand, piling pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and leaving him in a no-win situation. Trump released a video criticizing the $900 billion coronavirus relief package that congressional lawmakers passed on Monday and demanding they increase the checks. Democratic leaders cheered Trump's announcement, saying they supported $2,000 checks and noting that Republicans had blocked earlier proposals with bigger checks. "We spent months trying to secure $2000 checks but Republicans blocked it," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats would organize a vote on increasing the amount. This leaves the next move to McConnell, who has for months insisted on a smaller stimulus package and has rejected Democratic proposals for $1,200 checks.

McConnell now has two undesirable options from his viewpoint:
• He can cave and accept a larger stimulus figure after fighting for months to keep it down.
• He can block the larger checks and take the political heat for it.

One reason McConnell may fear blowback for keeping the checks at $600 is the runoff elections for Georgia's two Senate seats, which the GOP needs to hold to keep control of the chamber. The New York Times reported last week that McConnell backed including stimulus checks in the package after hearing that opposition to them was harming the Senate campaigns in Georgia. The $900 billion package was the product of talks with a bipartisan group of senators after months of failed negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over how much should be spent and on what.Schumer called out McConnell on Twitter on Tuesday. "I'm in. Whaddya say, Mitch?" he said. "Let's not get bogged down with ideological offsets and unrelated items and just DO THIS! The American people deserve it." Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Democrat, said she and Rep. Rashida Tlaib had written an amendment that was "ready to go." "We can pass $2k checks this week if the Senate GOP agrees to stand down," Ocasio-Cortez said.

Let's just face it. Trump doesn't give a hoot if Americans receive a stimulus check or how much. This is simply Trump paying back Mitch McConnell for acknowledging last week that Joe Biden is the President-elect.

Dem Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib say they already have an amendment written for increasing COVID stimulus checks to $2000 per person. Mitch? Mitch? Where are you Mitch? :::crickets:::

Trump's 'handlers' have left the building, meaning that in the past 4 years, wiser minds have prevailed, reined Trump in and put a stop to his harebrained impulses. Trump is on his own now, so expect more craziness.

trump's base is made up of poor people.

trump demanding republicans, champions of the rich, to give money to the poor is the funniest thing that's happened in 2020.

Let's see if republicans have the balls to say no to trump.

This is all nothing less than a massive scam on the American public and legal pirating and theft of our tax dollars. Regarding this bill passed in the Senate, the Feds were sitting on $454 billion from the Cares Act passed last May that was never allocated, but Steve Mnuchin knows where it went. That money is part of the $900 billion bill. It has been very clear that Trump and his administration has been robbing all of us blind. We have all been the victims of nothing less than racketeering at the highest levels imaginable.

75% of the $454 Billion CARES Act Money Never Went to the Fed; It Was Invested by a Mnuchin Slush Fund Called the ESF

The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27. Congress earmarked $454 billion of that stimulus money to be distributed by the Treasury to the Federal Reserve to be used for emergency lending programs to save businesses and jobs during the pandemic and keep credit flowing to the U.S. economy. The catch was that the Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin, would have to give his approval for each of the programs.

Since June, Wall Street On Parade has been reporting that $340 billion of the $454 billion that Mnuchin was instructed to turn over to the Fed was unaccounted for. We noted that 98,000 businesses had permanently closed in the U.S. while this money, intended for economic relief, went missing.

On November 19, Mnuchin publicly issued a letter to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, making it sound like most of the CARES Act money has been sitting idle at the Fed and Mnuchin was demanding it back to put to better use.

Adding to our conviction that Mnuchin was intentionally misleading the public, Bloomberg News published an article on Tuesday about the funds that Mnuchin planned to claw back from the Fed. The Bloomberg article carried this sentence: “The money in question includes $429 billion that Mnuchin is clawing back from the Fed — which backed some of the central bank’s emergency lending facilities…”

But for months now, the Federal Reserve’s weekly financial statements known as the H.4.1 have indicated that all the Fed received from Treasury for its emergency lending facilities was $114 billion, leaving $340 billion unaccounted for.

it's 5d chess. or maybe it's 1d Connect 4 with sticky chocolate fingers and then flipping the whole thing over in a tantrum. i can't decide.

Which is why Trump is not coming back in 2024 as the GOP standard bearer. They are done with him. They got all they wanted out of him and then some and realize they are barely escaping with political careers and a country left.....MAYBE.

If he wants to come back he will have to invent something....call it the Trumplicrat party. WHATEVER!

BUT the $2000 check makes sense whereas the $600 check is an insult ......... it's just that the USA economy needs several checks going out to citizens to efficiently and responsibly bailout the economy that the REPUBS
fuc-ed up standing with Trump. Repubs are useless.
