I happen to be very fond of Mexicans and Mexican heritage. I also like the Italians. The difference is that Italians came here legally; we knew who they were, we knew where they were, and they didn't have to use stolen SS/Green Card numbers, thereby screwing up the SS accounts and tax records of hundreds of thousands citizens and legal residents. That is the difference between controlled legal immigration and uncontrolled mass illegal immigration.

Personally, I don't care if they triple or quadruple the number of legal immigrants from Mexico and Central America; I just want to make sure the authorities know who's here, and where they are.

Also, there is a very large illegal population that is involved in criminal activity, so please, I've lived here all my adult life, and I've seen the massive changes that occurred since Reagan's amnesty proclamation (which I supported at the time). It's a problem for the people of this state, and my personal opinion is that "sanctuary cities" are basically green-lighting all the criminal activities that illegals must employ just to survive here as an undocumented worker.

Reagan was a worthless POS president; he gave ILLEGAL people the right to become legal; WTF is that about?
Why don't we all just go out, rob banks, and then we can all get amnesty for our ILLEGAL acts.

All while Reagan was creating an America for ILLEGALs he was busy ILLEGALLY selling arms to the Iranians.
Reagan had also 'busted' PATCO which had LEGAL right to strike.

Reagan was likely as bad as Lincoln; Lincoln = the worst violator of The Constitution.

Just floating the question. I don't know enough about George Wallace besides that he ran on a platform of segregation and won a bunch of primaries. I think Trump is working the same impulses that Wallace was working in his campaign. Just towards a different set of minorities.

The argument seems to boil down to two different viewpoints.

I think Trump has malice in his heart and will exploit minorities for political gain. I think it's verifiable that failing plutocracies in history have used minorities as scapegoats to keep the total population oppressed. And I think that is happening right now.

People who support Trump think that he is not prejudiced. They think he makes decisions with national security in mind.. whether that's counter-terrorism or immigration.

I doubt you could be more wrong. What on earth is political gain for businessman who is president of the U.S. and won't seek political office after his term of office? I haven't seen a scintilla of malice. The malice is all in his opponents. I think you have been reading too much liberal press.

He's a narcissist who wants to see himself on TV and won't shut up about ratings. There's not many he wouldn't throw under the bus to satisfy his ego. He scapegoated minorities in the primary, it produced a reaction. Trump's able to read that reaction and see that it played well with the Republican base. There's the exploitation of minorities for political gain. For Trump this election was about him and him only.. he needed one last time in the limelight.

It is sad in a way. Some of the Trump supporters are the very same type of folks that he cheated with his Trump University scam. This group of voters have likely been scammed too, but simply are to loyal to see it.

2-Barack Obama 'targeted' refugees (gasp...MUSLIMS) when he halted programs to ensure the vetting practices were effective and to secure the safety of the country.
