TRUMP’S MIDEAST MIRAGE
by Eric Margolis

September 20, 2020
The Trump administration, desperate for some good news, just manufactured its own news by confecting a ‘peace’ deal between Israel and a bunch of pipsqueak Arab monarchies – just in time for November US elections.

The Gulf monarchies – the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain – that signed this agreement are so frightened of neighboring Iran that they would happily have opted for Israeli rule rather than welcome the angry, unforgiving Iranians, who call the Gulf Arabs ‘traitors, cowards and backstabbers,’ a sentiment shared by much of the Arab world.

Few Americans could find these little sheikdoms on a map. But many evangelical voters, who have a comic-book view of the Mideast, will think the Trump administration has achieved a major feat by supposedly bringing peace to the Holy Land. Cynics, among them many Israelis, will likely scoff at such falafel in the sky thinking. Oman is expected to sign the new accord.

Israel remains intent on expanding its borders to gobble up all of what was historic Palestine and its water resources. Five million Palestinians will remain stateless. Israel also has its eye on fertile parts of Syria and Lebanon.

Could you please point out any language in the agreements between any Arab country and Israel that involves "Israeli rule"?

Is that in the wording in the agreement between the Arab countries and Israel?

...hopefully someday you republicrat zionist cheerleaders learn that 'words' from zionists, republicrats, etc. scumbags, are worthless... actions speak louder than words, cheerleader...

"...For years under Netanyahu, Israel has continued to steal Palestinian land and build illegal Jewish settlements in full view of the world and media. Numerous condemnations issued by the UN have had no effect; Israel has simply ignored them and acted with impunity.

No other country in the world has racked up as many violations of UN Resolutions as Israel has, but this latest move goes beyond the apparently acceptable behaviour of the rogue state. The annexation of the occupied West Bank will happen without any consultation with the Palestinians; they must take it or leave it.

Trump’s so-called “deal of the century” was sold to the world as a “peace plan”, and yet it gives the green light for Israel to go ahead with the annexation. It will then have stolen and colonised so much land that what is left for “Palestine” will no longer be viable as an independent state. Like all of the US President’s plans, there’s little evidence that much strategic planning has gone into his deal, other than that it must benefit Israel at all costs...."

So...in spite of all your opinionated blather, you cannot provide a direct answer to my question.

So be it.

Moving on...

US War Crimes in Yemen: Stop Looking the Other Way
The State Department warned for years that the U.S. was complicit in war crimes in Yemen. No one put a stop to it
by Andrea Prasow Posted on September 24, 2020

The longstanding involvement of the United States in the conflict in Yemen is facing renewed scrutiny. On September 16, State Department officials testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee about whether the State Department misled Congress – and the American people – by circumventing controls designed to limit arms sales and ensure congressional oversight.

The crimes occurring in Yemen are serious – and the responsible parties demonstrably unwilling or unable to address them. The most recent report by the United Nations Group of Eminent and International Regional Experts on Yemen described “an acute accountability gap” and recommended that the UN Security Council refer the situation in Yemen to the International Criminal Court.....

Despite U.S. denials, we considered the U.S. to be a party to the conflict because of the direct role U.S. forces played in specific military operations, and that this participation might implicate U.S. forces in violations by coalition forces.

The numbers we put forward in 2015 seem almost quaint now. Nearly six years later, the Armed Conflict and Event Data Project estimates that 112,000 people have died from the hostilities, including 12,000 civilians. Millions more suffer, or have perished, from hunger caused by the Saudi-led coalition’s blockade and the Houthis’ massive restrictions on aid delivery, a situation that’s been exacerbated in recent months by COVID-19....

.. How did we get here? For years, the Defense Department has claimed that U.S. involvement in the war in Yemen saves lives. Congress disagrees. Twice, it has voted to ban weapons sales to Saudi Arabia because of its poor track record on protecting civilians; twice, President Trump has vetoed the ban...."
