Stagflation is coming. Get ready, America.

Inflation and unemployment are inversely correlated, so its either one

I think the overall effects of the tariffs will be inflationary. Not systemically, but in that some things are likely to go up in price.
However, I think those inflationary effects will be counteracted by Trump's other economic moves.

Lol not always, what a confidently ignorant thing to say. Have you never heard of stagflation?

Also in this case the inflation is being deliberately caused and it will result in rising unemployment and economic contraction.

JANFU: I don't understand the last two votes options. Base and Rs in Congress over Tariffs? What does that mean?

What do you mean nonsense. You don't think stagflation is a thing? If stagflation is a thing fine, don't cast a vote, don't pretend that unemployment and inflation can't both go up because it has happened many times throughout history.

They aren't tariffs.

It's extortion.

Rates did go down.

Tariffs will help keep US $'s in America and not going to other Countries!
Prices on many things will go up and will make things unpleasant for all.

But at the end of the day (Assuming Trump is mostly correct about things) This will help
America be less exploited by other Nations! Which is a good thing for us.

It might take a few weeks or even months but it should work out to our benefit.

If we're so exploited, how do we have the largest economy in the world?

So then, other countries are Extorting the US more than Trump plans to extort them, and that's ok with you ?
Well, only if you believe Trump's fraudulent math and if you're unwilling to work for $5/day.

Btw, how much did you pay for your iPhone and how is your 401k doing?

RING!
American Bridge- "Hello, Stelco? We'd like to order 20 tons of 1/2" mild steel plate."
Stelco- "Sorry, the Canadian government says we can't sell you any more steel until a Canadian company buys $45M worth of something from an American company."

That how you think it should work?

Such as.....?

Any tariff is inflationary in the short term because it raises the price of the good.
It is also inflationary in the long term, since when the factory moves to the United States, the costs of employees, energy, etc., will be higher than in the country where it was located before (which is why the companies left).
Furthermore, the fall in the value of the dollar makes the country poorer and drives away foreign investors, since whatever profits they might gain they lose in the currency exchange.
Conversely, US corporate investors see that they can gain from currency exchange by investing abroad and take their money out of the country, which causes the dollar to fall even further.

The result is inflation + recession = stagflation.

We have the largest GDP in the world so how exploited can we really be? Trade imbalances we have are a result of how wealthy we are as a nation. Simply, we can afford to buy more from other countries than other countries buy from us.

How exactly do you think we've been able to keep inflation manageable for all these years prior to Covid? Importing!

Tariffs are a balancing act for ALL COUNTRIES. Demanding fair trade by bullying other countries into submission is mob boss like. We transitioned to a dominant Service Economy which has served us well. Other ways to bring back manufacturing for certain industries involving a need for national security reasons like chip manufacturing.

I'll bet you think you know more than the experts.

Not at all. Although I was a university professor of financial economics for seven years and currently run an investment firm, I don't consider myself more of an expert than any economist. This is nothing more than first-year economic theory, and despite searching, I haven't found a single article that demonstrates anything else regarding generalized tariffs.
A different matter would be specific, carefully studied tariffs to develop the most strategic sectors in an orderly manner, but that's not the case.

Don't care what your background you claim to have. Tariffs lead to trade wars whereby everybody loses. That's not just my opinion but a historical fact.
