There's no such thing as a free lunch, and by extension there's no such thing as a free holiday. Businesses don't really pay people for not working, they spread the cost across the rest of the year. With 260 weekdays, every new paid holiday is basically worth about 1/260 of your wages, whether it shows up as a smaller paycheck, slower raises, or higher prices. You're not getting something for nothing.

Businesses somehow still find a way to be profitable in Europe.
I get 5 weeks holiday and Im on the absolute minimum as I've just started a new job.

BTW: We're a very small business that employed a varying number of employees at any given time. We managed to provide paid holidays, paid vacation weeks (along with whatever extra time off was needed) and good healthcare coverage for employees and their families. We didn't see our employees as "getting something for nothing".

Also big corporations that claim to believe in the "free market' have no problem use their powerful position to manipulate the market. Just like corporations have no problem with supporting Trump that both dismantle democracy and take control of the economy.
