President Donald Trump's four trips to his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida over four weeks in March and February 2017, including his summit with the Japanese prime minister, cost the government nearly $14 million, according to the results of a nonpartisan government watchdog's investigation obtained by ABC News. The accounting, which reveals that the government also paid roughly $60,000 to Trump's Palm Beach property, provides one of the clearest pictures to date of the costs incurred by the government for the president's travel to his properties. Of the $13.6 million spent by the government on Trump's four trips to Florida, $10.6 million was spent on government aircraft and boats, while another $3 million was spent on transporting, lodging and feeding government personnel associated with the trips, according to the GAO. The Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security incurred a majority of those costs, according to GAO, approximately $8.5 million and $5.1 million, respectively. The costs do not include expenses incurred by local law enforcement, and salaries and benefits paid to government officials who would be paid regardless of travel.
Trump's early trips to Mar-a-Lago cost nearly $14 million: Watchdog report
And that's only over four weeks (weekends) in early 2017. You can almost imagine what the current tab might be. But he works so damn hard!

There are too many other things wrong with Trump to go and complain about the fact that it costs money for him to travel and vacation. He does it much more than previous presidents, yes, but I'm not willing to attack him over it.

$14 million - in 4 weeks? For him to go to his mansion and play golf?
This is a joke, right?
It wouldn't be such a big thing ... if he hadn't repeatedly attacked Obama for it and promised he wouldn't be taking time for either golf or weekend travel. If he had only broken his word a little, then it would be worth going "meh" over. But after pounding Obama on it, Trump has broken his word on this massively.
Yes, there ARE a lot of other things to criticize him for. But this is still something. It's a reminder of the petty and abusive way he rose to political power. It's a symbol of his dishonesty. It's a symbol of how he thinks the taxpayer coffer is there for him to play with ... not for him to be a responsible steward over. And it's a symbol of the kind of hypocrisy he thinks -- KNOWS -- he can get away with and still have his supporters mobilize to defend him for even worse behavior than what they had fits over Obama doing.

No joke. The General Accounting Office doesn't joke about government expenditures. That's what it does.
