Russia and Iran vow retaliation

Unlike a year ago, when a chemical attack in Syria prompted Trump to order air strikes on a Syrian air base within days, the US military has held off on any immediate action.

One consideration is the potential response: On Wednesday, Russia repeated its warning that it would shoot down any US missiles.
============================================
Russia has also promised to strike back at the ships that launch any missiles. That could quickly escalate to WWIII.

Yep--- Trump is dealing with the failures of the Obama foreign policy in the region.

In his tweet of today, he tries to shame Putin for backing Asaad.
Aint gonna work.

Are you egging Trump on to attack Syria right through Russia’s grille and let the test their missiles? Because these same liberals hate Trump and want to use it against him.

Lmao, what about Obama in the second post and a year and a half after Obama is no longer president.

Congratulations.

Trump is facing the sad ass fact that GW Bush destabilized the entire ME with GW's 2003 war of choice in Iraq, a war of choice that cost thousands of American lives, and $3 trillion.

Gotta hand it to those Republicans; they sure know how to Make America Great Again killing off our boys & wasting trillion$.

Wait a Freakin minute!!! Trump just had his 'Mission Accomplished' moment not a week before... :doh

He declared the US had knocked the hell out of ISIS and will be withdrawing 'very soon'... let other people take care of it now...

If you want a scapegoat look to the guy who listened to the NEO-CONs and thought we could plant the seeds of democracy in a desert (with a bayonet no less)

You can accuse Trump of the same 'failures'... he wants out before the military thinks the job is done... :peace

That area of the world is a giant cluster **** and everyone knows it. There are no good choices to be made there and I can't fully blame Obama for choosing not to choose. I guess Obama could have sent in troops or done air strikes or various other forms of violence but the middle east is a ****ing powder keg that he didn't create. Trump didn't create it either but he's the kind of guy that makes things worse with his incessant blustering.

If we consider the facts of that region, it sounds like a worst case scenario. We have inflexible religious fanatics on every side of the dispute with some of them being led by a dictator, some opposing him and others fighting for a piece of whatever they can get. The Russians are supporting the dictator, the US is supporting the opposition and nobody really cares except for the vast number of refugees from the violence who are streaming into Europe and elsewhere, causing a humanitarian crisis and flooding otherwise rational countries with religious asshats who do not respect rational thinking. That's no recipe for peace.

As usual, I feel most sorry for the children who didn't choose to be born into conflict between competing bands of idiots. I also feel sorry for any person whose human compassion is wasted on people who aren't able to separate their horrible reality from their traditional fantasy. I hate to say it but there are some problems that can't be solved with diplomacy, as Allah will never come to the table. I say that anyone who is willing to die for their god be given that opportunity and the rest of us can enjoy a secular peace.

So Trump draws his own red line in the sand and does nothing. Are you gonna beat him up for that like you did to Obama?

I think his generals have explained the risks involved with the threatened Russian blowback. He should have kept his mouth shut like the Israelis did.

Ok-- if you wish to claim that the Trump stupid comment of last week emboldened Asaad, fair enough.
But I will also say the presence of a Russian army also emboldens Asaad. And that fact of that army is courtesy of the Obama Admim.

By repeating all the things he criticized Obama for doing?

How you rewrite history... did Obama invite Russia in as part of a remake of BushII's 'coalition of the bribed'???

So what could/should Obama have done to stop the Russians???

Trump didn't bomb Assad, he warned the Russians a strike on an airport was coming and then sent a bunch of cruise missiles into the equiv of an empty tent and killed a camel standing nearby.

Face it Trump is doing what he attacked Obama for- leaving before the job is done and way before the military thinks we should... :peace

Of course they aren’t, here comes the flow of excuses from trump supporters.

So let’s take what you say as fact, even though it isn’t......trump criticizes obama for drawing a red line and not doing anything and now trump has done the same thing. Cue your excuses in 5....4....3...2...1....

Now that's one whopping dose of dishonesty.

One week, Trump claims credit for winning ISIS (when it was in a full rout, missing 60% of its territory, on the day of the inauguration), and Trumpsters cheered him on.

The next week, everything is a disaster and it's all Obama's fault.

How do you make yourself say these things?

It wasnt stopping the Russians-- it was stopping the Syrians. Obama drew his famous line, Asaad called the bluff, and Russia bailed Obama out of the problem he was in.

My personal suspicion is that either Thursday or Friday we will begin medium to large scale attacks on Syrian military targets. Trump and military are bunkered down discussing details right now (or the military is and Trump is just saying do whatever you need to). Either Russia backs down because we show a very strong force or they strike back and we will be in a full blown war by the end of the month.

Of course that's just what I think is likely.

Oh, its fact.

Maybe if Trump accepts a proposal by, say, China to send troops to Syria to remove chemical weapons, then we can say Trump did the same thing as Obama.
But of course Trump is not so silly as to accept such a proposal.

Interesting spin, the Russians who are now being claimed to be supporting Assad were somehow bailing Obama out how exactly???

The Russians veto'd UN sanctions so there is that 'help' Obama got... :doh

I saw it as Putin starting to flex his muscles attempting to be the counter point to a hegemon. I also don't recall much support in Congress to invade/heavy bomb/nuke Syria. I don't recall the American people onboard either. Unlike Putin, Obama isn't a king and can't just go it alone.

However if we look at the facts, once Obama went to the UN over the gas attacks they stopped until Trump took office so I'd say the change to Trump signaled the Russians they could restart the gas attack campaign... :peace

I do hope he's not so utterly full of himself as to completely ignore them.

Maybe they are bluff, maybe not. But all around the best action now would for him to learn - learn SOMETHING for once in his life - that this moment teaches him that he needs to finally start thinking before farting. I mean speaking.
