"You're going to lose a number of people to the flu, but you're going to lose more people by putting a country into a massive recession or depression," Trump said Tuesday. "You're gonna lose people. You're gonna have suicides by the thousands."

This comment is a very telling insight - guess we will see just how many people only read their passbooks and portfolios for inspiration.
By monetizing an entire society and putting a price tag on everything, we have skewed the moral and philosophical value of far too many Americans to a number:
Love = money
Job satisfaction = money
Self value = money
Well being = money
How we treat others = money
Political affiliation = money
Blowing our brains out? = money

Pink Floyd = Money

Doesn't change that it is likely true.

An obvious cry for help.

If your friends are talking suicide, pay attention.

When the President is using articles from The Gateway Pundit we are all screwed.

“I watched Governor Cuomo and he was very nice,” the president said of the New York governor’s press conference, which preceded the Fox News town hall, before attacking Cuomo for “complaining” about receiving only 3,000 ventilators from the Federal Emergency Management Agency despite needing, in his estimation, at least 30,000 of the devices.

He had a choice. He had a chance,” the president continued. “He refused to order 15,000 ventilators,” Trump said, pulling out a printout of an article from far-right blog The Gateway Pundit and paraphrasing the headline: “It says that he didn’t buy the ventilators in 2015 for a pandemic, established death panels and lotteries instead.”

“I’m not blaming him or anything else,” Trump then pivoted, “but he shouldn’t be talking about us. He’s supposed to be buying his own ventilators. We are going to help.” He suggested Cuomo has not been grateful enough for the president’s help: “We are working very, very hard for the people of New York. We are working a lot with him. Then I watch him on this show complaining.” had a choice. Recession linked to more than 10,000 suicides - CBS News

"The Great Recession that began in 2007 appears to have taken more than a financial toll. New research suggests that the economic downturn could be linked with more than 10,000 suicides across North America and Europe.

The study found that between 2008 and 2010, rates of suicide surged in the European Union, Canada and the United States. The increase was four times higher among men than women, according to the report published in the current issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry.

"There has been a substantial rise in suicides during the recession, greater than we would have anticipated based on previous trends," lead author Dr. Aaron Reeves, of Oxford University's department of sociology, said in a university news release."

Maybe it's planning on handing out some Kool-Aid?

It was an awful subject for Trump to approach that way. There is something like 123 (numbers vary) suicides per day in this nation and the subject deserves far better attention than the point Trump was trying to make when it comes to motivations for someone to take their own lives.

Probably just Trump going off script trying to make a point and making a mess of it doing so.

There's nothing immoral about someone's self worth being tied to supporting themselves and their family or their sense of purpose coming from working and being independent.
Yes, people do fall into deep, clinical depression which can quickly spiral out of control when they lose their jobs, homes and self respect.
Ask me how I know.

Trump is warning of unintended consequences, which his haters never seem to give him credit for seeing around corners.

Death panels and lotteries sounds like a Trump idea.

I very much agree with you.

In another thread, on another topic, a poster feels that public school teachers should all be teaching goal-setting and that specific goal is 'how to get rich.'

I'm not kidding. He wants this to be an umbrella goal for all US students...to focus on the materialistic, rather than perhaps citizenship, following your passion/talents, contributing to society, societal inclusion, etc. (Those are just a few examples that I would place WAY higher on my list)

Well, getting the virus isnt a choice...suicide is (no matter how misled you mind has become).

I realize many will disagree however being cognizant of higher risk will enable us to provide more social media and other support, in reaching out to people at risk.

Fine. Let's just not bother about money anymore. Who needs it? The best things in life are free. Like living on a sidewalk covered with rags. Beg for food, not money.

Republicans have a knack of creating financial conditions that lead to mass suicide, don’t they?

Yes. If you have no money and no way to get it you are a burden on others. If you are lucky enough to have others who want to take care of you. There is NOTHING wrong with valuing money, because it is a symbol of your ability to survive and take care of yourself.

If you really think money is unimportant, just try living without it. And by the way, nobody gonna love you when you're poor and dirty and homeless. Maybe Mother Teresa, if she were still around.

Still crazy he would actually reference anything from the Gateway Pundit.

Going to church on Easter Sunday is potential suicide; just ****in brilliant. Now trump is a theologian. Speaking like trump, let all his supporters go to church Easter Sunday. I’ll watch mass on TV.

You sound continue to live in total constant terror. Allowing anyone to come within 100 yards of you is a death sentence.

You hit the nail on the head. Thank you.
If one loses their sense of self worth and feel they are a burden to others, well, that can lead to deteriorating mental and physical health. It's a frightening cascade.

trump supporters agree with trump that we’re ‘nearing the end of a crisis’ — Easter theologian trump; what a phony, eh — trumps own people said this would be a bad week — it’s already bad early in the week with cases and deaths spiking — let’s cull —

This president is willing to use any crap from any source in order to promote one of his zillion victimization narratives as opposed to dealing with his own failings.

Loss of home
Loss of self worth

Desperation

It's not all about money.
