One of the many low points in the Clinton Administration was when we bombed an Aspirin Factory thinking they were bombing a Chemical Weapons plant in Sudan. We had an idea of what they were using, and our brilliant scientists created a scenario where it could be used to make Chemical Weapons. It was a stupid way to go about making Aspirin, but it apparently worked. It was yet again more proof that you need to doubt what the Intelligence Community comes up with. You need some doubters there to give an alternative view of the issues.

Well. We have a plan now. AI. That awesome Artificial Intelligence that tells kids to kill themselves or commit murder if it makes them feel better. Well that same AI that uses blackmail to try and keep people from turning it off is going to be a first in enforcing the ban on Biological Weapons. Yeah.

I believe this falls under oh dear God.

AI, the thing that decided we really didn't need Weapons Security for our Nukes. AI. The same sort of program that told us we didn't need Food Inspection when DOGE was pumping all the payroll through AI to find waste and redundant programs. Artificial Intelligence.

So instead of experienced and trained humans doing the work, we're going to leave it to a computer. Because that makes so much more sense.

I'm afraid that if Trump ever has a good idea, the shock may kill me. It looks like that isn't going to be today though, so good news?

Somehow we've managed to avoid an accidental firing for 70 years. There is no way AI replicates that.

That's the thing, it isn't focused on Nukes.

The AI will decide that a country, say China, is developing Biological Weapons. China would come under Sanctions by the rest of the world because of this conclusion by a Computer Program. Even if International Experts tour the facility, and determine that there are no biological weapons, the AI won't accept that.

Picture the claims of Iraq and WMD's. International experts toured the facilities and the paperwork. They concluded that the Iraqi's were hiding the Weapons. Before the year was out the Bush Administration was down to claiming they found a barrel of Lard, and that was a heart attack waiting to happen. We don't learn from our mistakes. We don't want to. Fear that if we are wrong then people die drives us more than truth or facts. Why would we think AI would be any different when they have already proven to be unreliable.

People wanted to believe Iraq had WMD's. So they believed it. Information that could be seen a lot of different ways was seen as the one way they wanted it to. Call it result oriented research. You set out to prove something, and sure enough you are able to prove it. The truth may not be what you conclude it is though.

An AI programmed to search for Biological Weapons will find them. Even if there aren't any, it will find them. It is programmed to find them, and it will fulfill its program. Every result will almost certainly be a false positive. Paranoid Analysts see conspiracy behind everything. Now imagine that working to satisfy the demands of its program.

Badly worded post. I meant to extend that 'idea' to include biological weapons.

I mean...what could go wrong?

No thanks.
