Trump wanting to put a physical imprint on DC

Fact is I think @gbg3 does believe it. Trumpers tend to be very superficial in terms of what is important. They talk of things like charisma, and how they look, their cheap public tricks like flipping hamburgers etc. It's all about the show It's quite amazing. Character integrity, truthfulness means nothing to them.
So true, the party of values my arse.

Everyone has their own taste, I guess. I don't like garish. I shouldn't need sunglasses to enter the Oval Office.

It is the capital, which is why I think Trump's tawdry displays put the nation in a bad light. Leave the glitter for Las Vegas. Washington, DC is the seat of government. It's supposed to be boring and intellectual, not flashy and entertaining.
I'm not a fan of all the gold in the oval office but each president can decorate the oval office to their liking. Taking down all the gold and repainting is quite minor.

I think the ballroom will be a wonderful addition and the renderings of it are beautiful. I also think the Rose Garden patio is great. It's attractive and will be far more comfortable for guests than uneven and sometimes soggy grass. I simply love the big flags on each side of the White House!

As far as cleaning up and spiffing up the city and doing things like getting broken fountains working, streets repaired, and tired grass replaced, I very much applaud that effort. And how very nice for visitors to visit a safer city. DC should be beautiful and cared for - not "boring and intellectual".

Do you really think a ballroom will cement his 'legacy' of a great president?
No. Trump is one very productive man - as president. He will have very many presidential accomplishments as a part of his legacy.

But Trump brought substantial experience with him into this part of his life - and it was quite unique experience compared to his predecessors. I think it's great he's putting some of that talent to work in enhancing the White House and the city, in ways which will greatly benefit residents and visitors to the city and to the White House. These enhancements will be a most interesting addition to Trump's legacy and a stamp few others would have the expertise to execute.

But I'm in a different position that nearly every poster who has contributed to this thread - up to where I've read so far (the comment I'm responding to). I don't have any need or desire to hate Trump so I can see value where so many of you can't escape your hate and sour grapes about Trump in general. The negativity is so dramatically intense, it reads as ridiculous and comical.

Actually I had a delightful day here at the lake. Gorgeous weather and looks like another beautiful day today. Life is good!

Really? Here's what I knew about trump before he ran and what I know about trump after. He owned a casino in Atlantic City, that was the extent of my knowledge about trump, everything else I learned about him, came from him. You folks who support trump love to tell yourselves how much we hate him and have tds and are therefore blind to his 'accomplishments'. It's not us being blind, it's his supporters, like you. Productive? Seriously? Other than his big, beautiful bill which will hurt millions what has he done beside issue EO after eo? What has he gotten done through Congress? Oh yeah, the big beautiful bill.

The slavishness of this post is truly repulsive.
This is the problem with MAGAs. They don't consider the feelings of the people they are affecting. They just do what they want no matter what.

The majority of Americans despise Trump. He has an overall approval around 40% which fluctuates both ways. That means that on average 60% don't like the man or his policies. And in DC, the place he's planning to leave his mark on, 97% voted against him.

America has elected a building decorator instead of a president.
What's worrisome is his obsession with it and the time spent on it. Usually it's First Ladies who spend time on this stuff. However when you think of it Trump spends all his time on his personal obsessions like golf, tariffs, the media, vengeance , tweeting and remaking the Capitol in his image.

He is not very well informed, doesn't read briefs prepared for him. That's why he spends his time on mundane stuff instead of what a president should be focusing on. Managing the nation.

He's productive alright. Everything he touches goes to shit. Look at how many of his allies have been thrown under the bus and had their lives ruined because of Trump. His life history proves this. He has destroyed 200,000 plus federal employee families and could care less. He will, when it's tallied, have caused millions of deaths worldwide. These are the tip of the iceberg.

So, yea, he has some accomplishments. That doesn't mean, they are positive.

The biggest problem I have with Trump lovers is the fact they can overlook Trump's horrible demeanor. He is an immoral human with a sever lack of character and ethics. No need to go into his life of criminality. That says everything you need to know about him. Greed and grift are all he lives for. Throw in a few young girls in his younger days. Plainly he's a despicable human being. Even if he does one or two good things for America, what I just described prevents me from ever respecting him. He has no redeemable qualities.

Turning the White House into a gaudy palace.

And one that lacks any sense of decor or taste

It will no longer be known as the White House. Until further notice, by Trump decree, it will be called the "Presidential Palace."

Later on, it will be known as the "Royal Palace." ...

Anyone can “spruce up” a neighborhood by rounding up the people they deem undesirable and shipping them out and slapping some paint and fresh landscaping around the place.

Creating curb appeal doesn’t actually rectify problems, it merely makes things look nice.

But…when people are about style over substance, they fall for the bullshit.

Fly by night real estate Flippers do this with crappy construction and remodels in houses all the time 🤷‍♀️. Trump knows this and uses the same playbook - and gets the same reaction from the trained seals applauding.

Except it’s OUR money he’s using to do it. When there are actual things the money could be spent on that are true NEEDS.

Trump Tower in his head, the Donald dump to the world until the next president comes in and rips out all the tacky gold crap

I think Newsom was oh so wrong when he recently questioned why Trump would want to add a ballroom to a place he wouldn't be residing at, for very long after its completion.
On that particular note, wouldn't the logical question be if the White House needed a ballroom such as what is being constructed?
I mean I can think of instance where it might, state dinners and events like that, but on the other hand, seems they've been doing OK for years now without one as well.

Me? I'm undecided as to whether or not the the White House needs a ballroom or not.

I think it's all about Trump's legacy and putting his unique (the builder/developer, which is such a big part of Trump) imprint on the White House and on the city where it resides.

I'm certain there will be an election in 2028, and Newsom's drama was comical. And it really was actually comical because much to Newsom's evident frustration (when he told the audience it wasn't funny), the audience got a good laugh at that part about Trump building the ballroom.

There are SO many places in DC that host large events and SO many venues that can accomodate them - building a ballroom attached to the White House while average Americans are trying to figure out how to pay their bills and keep their families safe and provided for is a “let them eat cake” moment in American history.

Odd that this ' “let them eat cake” moment in American history' doesn't apply to"
  • the many millions or billions which USAID was spending / trying to spend across the world for ridiculous ideologically driven crap
  • the spending in the fraudulently named 'Inflation Reduction Act'
  • the many millions or billions hastily shoveled out the back door after the election for the energy sector to promote 'green energy'
But a White House ballroom which is being built with donations and not tax payer money, that, of course, simply has to be a ' “let them eat cake” moment in American history'.
</sarcasm>

I think the ballroom will be a wonderful addition and the renderings of it are beautiful.
And makes the view of the White House grounds look ugly.

I also think the Rose Garden patio is great.

And the table umbrellas, when folded down, look like orange dicks with signs of skin infection (the white spots).

No. Trump is one very productive man - as president.

"Destructive" is misspelled.

But Trump brought substantial experience with him into this part of his life

Book-cooking (see the BLS's future).
Ugly designing.
Bad investing.
Strong-arming/extortion.
Short-changing (ask the National Guardsmen in DC).

The negativity is so dramatically intense, it reads as ridiculous and comical.

Negativity is what Trump has projected since 2015.

Trump Tower in his head, the Donald dump to the world until the next president comes in and rips out all the tacky gold crap

Whoever that is should force him to sit and watch as they do it.

The East Room is sufficient. It can hold 200.

What event does the President need a 600-capacity room for?

As if he cares.

And how much of our money has Trump spent on his political revenge spree so far?

  • the spending in the fraudulently named 'Inflation Reduction Act'

And the evermore fraudulently named Big "Beautiful" Bill.

Although i do agree that the IRA was fraudulently named.

But a White House ballroom which is being built with donations and not tax payer money, that, of course, simply has to be a ' “let them eat cake” moment in American history'.

Built with donations....according to Trump.

And if he wasn't lying about that part, why are they anonymous? Why is he hiding their names? Is it because influence peddling is involved...just like the $TRUMP coin or meme (or whatever shit that was named)?

And how much of our money has Trump spent on his political revenge spree so far?
While his bluster would make is seem that way, its up to the DOJ and the case they built.
I'll wait for the case to be presented before characterizing it as 'revenge spree'.

And the evermore fraudulently named Big "Beautiful" Bill.
As I've posted, I'm less than enthusiastic about that bill / law, and believe that congress should have started with a post COVID 2019 baseline and make the needed adjustments from there.

Although i do agree that the IRA was fraudulently named.

Built with donations....according to Trump.
Seems to be the facts of the matter, and none are 'according to Trump:

And if he wasn't lying about that part, why are they anonymous?
I dunno.

Why is he hiding their names?
Are you sure that the donors just simply want to remain anonymous?

Is it because influence peddling is involved...just like the $TRUMP coin or meme (or whatever shit that was named)?
Doesn't seem to be supported nor documented, at this point. New information might change that.
