Miami (CNN)President Donald Trump Friday charted his own course for more confrontational relations with the Castro-led government in Cuba with a speech in Miami

The speech, which came as the President signed a directive outlining his posture towards Cuba, is the latest attempt by the Trump administration to chip away at former President Barack Obama's legacy. Obama spent the last two years of his presidency looking to warm relations with Cuba, including a trip to the island in 2016.

Thank goodness. This is about sending a larger message about freedom and democracy. Perhaps rolling back Obama's Cuba policy will be detrimental to the economy, however Cuba needs to held accountable for their many crimes against humanity, something Obama did not address.

This is what leadership looks like.

Considering Cuba's LGBT record this is a good step to make during pride month. Obama should have mandated strong changes in Cuba before improving relations.

It's fascinating that the media generally referred to Obama as "overcoming" the policies of the Bush administration but Trump is "chipping away" at the Obama policies.

I assumed this was going to happen. Cuba is an easy place for Republicans to score some political points even if they did just dance with the Saudis.

More Trump stupidity.

What's stupid is Obama being silient on Cuba creating an asylum for murderers and cop killers and not addressing it.

Funny you cons don't hold the same thought while trump was sucking up to Saudi Arabia proving you guys don't care squat about human rights.

You agree with Obama's deal with Cuba?

Instead you support rewarding a country like Saudi Arabia for giving us hijackers that killed thousands.

How does that justify Obama's Cuba deal?

The hijackers were all immigrants. Do you support President Trump's travel ban?

Not my point. I have a problem with pretending like this decision is because of how disgusting the Cuban government is while sword dancing with the Saudis. We can't have it both ways. It's extremely hypocritical.

No what is stupid, is to think that the same policy that has been going on for 40 years will finally work now.. it is a Homer Simpson moment.. Obama had the right idea... to slowly give the people of Cuba hope and it worked. Cuba has opened up more and more, and the Castro brothers wont live forever.

So, Obama's deal is crap and should be reversed?

Stupidity is knowingly supporting the Cuban government's oppression of the Cuban people.

And yet you have no problem with the Saudi government or many other dictatorships doing the same.. /clap.

Politics to shore up the Cuban vote to keep FL in 2020. Which may, or may not work.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country suffers.

There goes my Cuba trip ...

Just admit that this is just another anti-Trump bitchfest.

Not a single one of you can present an argument for why this is a bad idea.

Naturally, you've got it ass backwards.

As you well know, we cater to evil egimes all the time. In fact, at least a good 30% minimum of the evil regimes in the last sixty years have been ones we created because we thought it would help us in some way, whether it be fighting the Soviets or expanding the profitable (for certain government employees and contractors) War on Drugs.

The whole Cuba thing began with us allying with "freedom fighters" aka terrorists, because we wanted to stick it to the Soviets, with whom Castro was sympathetic. Now, Castro may have been a dirty bastard himself, but that doesn't exactly excuse allying ourselves with dirty bastards now does it? Or maybe it does, to some.

At the end of the day, all the Cuban embargo did was to hurt the very people we claimed we were trying to help: Cuban citizens under the thumb of its oppressive government.

But hey, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that many on the right will simultaneously make noises about being warm to Cuba because of its leader, but praise Trump for kissing Putin's ass and turning a blind eye toward Russian attempts to interfere with our elections.

Russia's fine, but Cuba? Yeah, we gotta watch out for Cuba.

You were going to go spend money in Cuba and fund the government's oppression?

When Cubans in America support Trump on this virtually 100 percent, isn't that all you need to know?
