Trump TV!

How much money could Donald Trump bring in with a new social-media platform or TV channel after he leaves office? At least $300 million in annual revenue, according to back-of-the-envelope estimates by some analysts.

The president has indicated that he plans to launch a social media platform, TV channel, or both, and reiterated the plan on Friday, after his personal account was taken down by Twitter (ticker: TWTR). "We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future," the president said in a statement.

Trump had more than 88 million followers on Twitter before his account was removed following the Capitol Hill riots. Facebook (FB) and its Instagram platform also suspended the president temporarily. The president's accounts were disabled on other social media platforms, including Snapchat (SNAP) and Twitch.

There is no telling how many of Trump's 74 million voters or social-media followers would pay for access to his views and other right-wing voices. But Richard Greenfield and his team at LightShed Partners predict that "TrumpTV" could charge $5 a month. At that rate, it would only take 5 million subscribers to reach annual revenue of $300 million.

One challenge may be convincing a major tech or media company to host TrumpTV.

Big Tech has rapidly turned against Trump and right-wing media since the riots. Alphabet (GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL) removed Parler from their app stores in recent days, claiming the site violated their terms of service. Parler's site went dark on the internet after Amazon.com removed it from its web-hosting service, prompting a lawsuit from Parler. Amazon said there is no merit to Parler's claims and intends to oppose the suit.

The controversy has already knocked billions of dollars in market value off some of the stocks. Twitter, facing the most immediate impact, is down 13% since the riots last week, including a 6.4% slide on Monday. Facebook fell 4% Monday and was down another 2.2% in trading Tuesday.

Nonetheless, Greenfield and his team predict that TrumpTV will launch this year. "Based on what happened over the past week, we have no doubt that there is a large group of consumers willing to support Trump after he leaves office --implying launching a media business would not be challenging from a subscriber standpoint," they write.

Trump may have to use open-web subscriptions to get around app store restrictions and may have to buy his own web servers around the country, they note. But even if Amazon or another major web provider is unwilling to host the service, "some other cloud player might," they wrote.
My TV has a button that says 'off'.

Maybe, but who will advertise on it. Big corps are running away from Trump as fast as they can. Maybe Putin can buy some ads touting tourism in Russia at the new Trump Hotel.

subscribed tv needs no advertisers, see netflix. i'd pay 20 dollars a month to get away from the big tech communist party. hell i may pay up to 75 if its worthwhile.

The Donald will start up Trump TV or an online platform just like he got us us a new health care plan that he must have promised 100 times. He's so full of SH**.

No one in the main stream is interested in listening to a demagogic insurrectionist. Trump will be too busy with his own criminal defense.

What "big tech communist party"? Don't be so ridiculous.

oh, the ones shutting down competitors because they don;t agree with and want to clamp down on the free ability to communicate on the web, that big tech communist party.

That's crony capitalism. And they whole point with private enterprise is that they are allowed to set their own rules. They have just ignored them because Trump meant $$$, he doesn't anymore, so now they suddenly remember he's breaking the rules. As I said, it's all just Capitalism.

its obvious, its so obvious that it is not worth my time to educate you on it.
So you can't name even one or show an example. "It's so obvious" isn't an argument any more than 'but everyone knows'. Try again or don't bother posting things you clearly know nothing about.

That was the plan. It got derailed when he unexpectedly won an election and became POTUS.
See what happens when you allow your gargantuan ego to get the better of your common sense?

Who's going to lend Trump the money for his start up media platform?

I don't think he is gonna have a choice. He's ruined it for his kids.
It's okay. With the money the Trump family fleeced from America they'll be sitting pretty inside 10 million mansions, or 80 million $ mansion in the case of Ivanka and Jared and little jared.

As long as they are out of politics I don’t care what they do.

Oh, I don't think they're finished with politics. Look for Donnie Jr. to run a campaign for 2024 President from a jail cell on Rikers Island

Fine with me.

Make sure everybody not already in thrall to conservative media sees how crazy trumpism is as often as possible.

And as the thralls require ever greater doses of the emotions trump has addicted them to trump's rhetoric will become more and more extreme.

With any luck they will self select for the Darwin award in numbers large enough to improve the gene pool.

Go go go!

This would be great for healing the country.
What you do is you let him do it, gather all the loonies there, then secretly buy it from trump and use his channel to tell all of his supporters to become liberals.

Have to go slow, maybe a few weeks.

But it would certainly work.

Trump supporters believe everything he says and don't care if he does a 180. Just tell them it's a long game to infiltrate, so they have to go all in. Vote, donate to Dems, read up on all the topics in lefty media so they'll be effective in countering them.

Then just be kind as they wake up in the process of doing what "trump" told them to do to stick it to the libs.

I have enough channels I don’t watch.

Sure, why not. It will give the disaffected Trump supporters somewhere to go and watch whatever programming can be acquired for linear/OTT broadcast, and could give a platform for all of those right wing folks who don't have much of a broader audience now (Dinesh D'Souza et.al). Though the obvious polarization could provide problems down the road for new content creation since there's a strong possibility people won't want to work for a Trump branded product or approve licensing agreements.

Trump is media savvy though, which could play in his favor, but the toxicity he's doused on his name and brand is a big hurdle to overcome. So it might work if his target audience is only his hardcore supporters, but the bottomline in media is content. If "Trump TV" can't create good content, it will go south pretty quickly.

Yeah...........

they believe everything he says because they want to believe it

if he starts telling them things they don't want to believe, he will lose his following
