A July 2018 NPR "Morning Edition" broadcast called "Is Trump the Toughest Ever on Russia?" examined Trump's assertion, "There's never been a president as tough on Russia as I have been." NPR largely agreed, "That might sound like hyperbole, but in this case, there's actually some basis for the President's boast." Trump, said NPR, increased spending on the European Deterrence Initiative; sent lethal weapons to Ukraine (which President Barack Obama resisted doing); changed our military's rules of engagement in Syria, which resulted in hundreds of dead Russian soldiers; pushed for greater domestic energy production, potentially harming Russian oil market share; and sanctioned dozens of Russian "oligarchs." NPR quoted Daniel Vajdich, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, who said, "When you actually look at the substance of what this administration has done, not the rhetoric but the substance, this administration has been much tougher on Russia than any in the post-Cold War era."
T.A. Frank, who writes for Vanity Fair, is a self-described liberal. He recently warned "Trump haters" to brace themselves for a letdown when Mueller releases his report, because "those who hope for an unveiling of indictments linking Putin and Trump in a grand conspiracy have no more reason to celebrate than they did a week or a month ago." As to Trump's alleged softness toward Russia, Frank concurs with NPR. "Trump's White House," he wrote, "has pursued what is arguably the harshest set of policies toward Russia since the fall of communism."

Because you can spew lies and come up with some fool opinion article? Dismissed for the bull**** nonsense propaganda it is. Your traitor boy is going down!
Yes it's what they call a declaration against interest . The strongest type of legal evidence. Thanks for letting us know you consider NPR as a very solid source.
LAFFRIOT
I didn't spew them, NPR and TA Frank did. Both liberal sources.

If I a right winger says Trump is tough on Russia. MEH. That's like a liberal 'scientist ( almost of all of them ) saying climate change is going to kill us all if we don't doooooooooooo something . Nothing to pay attention to.
But if a left winger says Trump is tough on Russia...now that's news!
Now go rung along an play in the climate change threads.

A sanction has no effect if not enforced.
So what you're saying is that you will believe any source as long as it agrees with your view.
Unfortunately, you have now forfeited the right to dismiss NPR as a liberal "fake news" source. Too bad.
Boy that is one strong rebuttal!

2 times and it STILL went over your head.OK, you have posted these exact same words for a second time in this thread. You can stop now.
You don't get to dismiss NPR for bias ever again. You have simply provided evidence that they are not the liberal mouthpiece the right so often claims.
2 times and it STILL went over your head.
Yes i will absolutely dismiss NPR as a liberal mouthpiece because that's exactly what they are 99.9 % of the time.
This happens to be the .1 % they weren't.
Hilarious. They're always wrong except the one time they happen to confirm my bias. Please stop.
The sanctions on Russia that were passed by an overwhelming majority in both House and Senate went to Trump for his approval. The 'Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act', or CAATSA, was passed in the House on July 25 by 419-3 and two days later in the Senate by 98-2. Trump had one week to sign the law, veto it, or do nothing and let it become law on its own.
On Aug. 2, with no public ceremony, Trump signed the bill -- but released two blistering statements with his signature, calling the legislation "significantly flawed" and saying it included "a number of clearly unconstitutional provisions." He said that he was "signing this bill for the sake of national unity." He didn't sign it to be 'tough on Russia', he had no choice but to sign those sanctions because they were overwhelmingly supported in Congress.
For weeks, the Trump administration did not fulfill its obligations. The law gave the Trump administration staggered deadlines to begin implementation -- the first being Oct. 1 for the Russian portion. By then, the administration was supposed to have authorized particular agencies to identify Russian defense and intelligence entities under the new sanctions that the U.S. would sanction individuals and companies for doing business with. Shortly before the deadline, that authorization was given, but for weeks the list of Russians was missing. Finally, after public and private prodding by Republican members of Congress, including Corker and McCain, the Trump administration sent to Congress its list and guidance.
So no, Trump has NOT been tougher on Russia than Obama ever was. He absolutely did not want to piss off Putin and tried desperately to get around doing it. But his back was up against the wall because even Republicans wanted Russia to be sanctioned for interfering in our election. Your Vanity Fair article is pure 100% unadulterated bull****.
This is like maybe the fourth time that "Toughest on Russia" puff piece has been exposed for what it was.
The moment anyone illuminates what REALLY happened regarding Trump's outbursts over being forced to sign the sanctions, Trumpistas start snorting and harumphing.
Meanwhile, we still have a shutdown to worry about, especially considering the likelihood that Trump might be fantasizing about playing tiddly winks with some errant aircraft thanks to the unpaid air traffic controllers.
It's becoming eerily apparent that Trump wouldn't think twice about creating a brand new 9/11 to facilitate canceling future elections.
My God, that Stephen Miller is one oily mf-er. Ain't no way his fingerprints aren't all over this. Trump isn't smart enough to have dreamed this up "all by hisself".
Hilarious. They're always wrong except the one time they happen to confirm my bias. Please stop.
You know what they say. Even a stopped clock is right 2 x a day.
