After the election, I think I’m not the only one asking the question “how on earth could people choose someone like Trump to be President of the United States?”

A recent national poll may shed some lights on the question. Public Policy Polling

Here are a few examples:

-67% of Trump voters say that unemployment increased during the Obama administration, to only 20% who say it decreased.

-Only 41% of Trump voters say that the stock market went up during the Obama administration. 39% say it went down, and another 19% say they're not sure.

-73% of Trump voters think that George Soros is paying protesters against Trump to only 6% who think that's not true, and 21% who aren't sure one way or the other.

Many of Trump supporters live in a fantasy world. Are they willing to open their eyes?

Here's my take on why most people who voted for him, wanted Trump to be the President, based on what I've gathered from Trump supporters:

1. They are against the political estabishment. Donald Trump presented himself as sort of an anti-establishment candidate.

2. They are against Political Correctness.

3. Bias in the Media.

4. They disliked Hillary Clinton. Meaning that they didn't necessarily like Trump as a presidential candidate, but to them, he was better than the alternative. The same could be said for a lot of Hillary supporters, too.

5. The 2nd Amendment. They felt Hillary would try to implement laws that would restrict their gun rights.

About your 'unbiased' source:
Just a few short years ago, Public Policy Polling was an obscure Democratic outfit, mostly focused on local polling in Raleigh, North Carolina. Now, ten years after its founding, PPP is driving national coverage with an unmatched supply of polls on everything from the Republican primaries to God's approval rating.

and...
Well, according to founder Dean Debnam, the whole operation began largely out of spite. Debnam, a proud Democrat whose wife was active in education advocacy and ran for mayor of Raleigh in 1999, fretted that the questions were slanted to produce more right-leaning results.

Snopes would rate your source as mostly False.

Yeah, well, 40% of those on the left say, "Who's Obama?"

Truly astonishing, to the point one has to wonder if those that proclaim their ignorance actually believe these false claims, or know better but use them as what we used to call "permission slips". A permission slip is when a candidate is disliked for reasons that can't easily be publicly justified without seeming like a jerk or idiot (racism, bigotry, blind allegiance to a flawed candidate), so a fake issue is propagated giving the voters a plausible 'out', even if it seems outlandish.

For ex: "I have no problem with a black President, but I just can't vote for a guy that is not a U.S. citizen"!

But here's something I believe even more relevant from that article:

"Trump's been in a variety of fights with the media recently, and he's losing all of them:

-By a 49/40 spread, voters say the New York Times has more credibility than Trump.

-By a 48/41 spread, voters say CNN has more credibility than Trump.

-While Trump's favorability rating is negative at 43/51, Saturday Night Live's is positive at 48/33.

Trump's certainly been effective at turning his voters against the various entities he's feuding with though. Among Trump voters the Times has a 7/71 favorability spread, CNN has an 11/76 favorability spread, and SNL has a 17/61 favorability spread. The musical Hamilton has an 11/45 favorability with Trump voters, compared to 61/3 with Clinton voters."

So we can see the Trampers are in the minority (as was also seen by the popular vote totals), but they are much more homogeneous and vocal in their beliefs, translating to higher voter participation rates. They could've been relatively easily tamped down, I believe, if the Dems had run a more popular vote producing candidate.

But the real danger here is Trump now will espouse from the Bully Pulpit, and Steve Bannon will be running a virtual ministry of propaganda from the White House. So the Trump effect described in the poll may very well strengthen, before it recedes. Actually, I believe when the recession comes it will likely be an implosion, and IMHO the sooner the better. I think the current 'Russia ties' division occurring between Trump and the rest of the country might be a start to showing the real Trump, and perhaps starting a fissure leading to turning this thing around.

I think these questions are misleading... and intentionally so. The only reason Obama has any sort of increase is because he started his presidency in a recession. And the markets bounced back on their own, like how they should. If they didn't bounce back on their own, then there is a much deeper and worse problem.

The only way you can adequately try to make any sort of sense from these statistics is try to see how Obama's economic recovery compares to others after a recession.

I assume conservative poll takers detected the deception in the questions... because they are entirely the wrong questions to ask, they mean nothing, because the vast majority of it was completely out of Obama's hands.

Even then... judging how an economy does during a presidents term from beginning to end means very little. A better measure is of a long term impact of certain policies the president put in place, and some short term impacts if severe enough (Obama care).

Maybe this will help you understand, I will post it in two parts.

The Angry Man Has Spoken

For all the interest groups pandering that shapes modern American politics, the group that may well have decided the election has come down to the demographic of “The Angry Man.”

The Angry Man is difficult to stereotype. He comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from sophisticated urbanite to rural redneck, Deep South to Yankee North, Left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.

No matter where he’s from, Angry Men share many common traits; they aren’t asking for anything from anyone other than the promise to be able to make their own way on a level playing field. In many cases, they are independent businessmen and employ several people. They pay more than their share of taxes and they work hard. Damn hard, for what they have and intend to keep.

He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the Christmas party for the employees at his company, three sets of braces, college educations or a beautiful wedding or two. Not because he was forced to, but because it’s the right thing to do.

The Angry Man believes the Constitution should be interpreted as it was written. It is not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of appointed judges and political winds.

The Angry Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun and use it in defense of his home, his country and his family. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone if necessary to achieve those goals gives him only momentary pause.

The Angry Man is not, and never will be, a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina. He got his people together and got the hell out. Then, he went back in to rescue those who needed help or were too stupid to help themselves in the first place. He was selfless in this, just as often a civilian as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter. Victim hood syndrome buzzwords; “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” don’t resonate with The Angry Man. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him.

His last name, his race and his religion don’t matter. His ancestry might be Italian, English, African, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, Russian, Hispanic or any of a hundred others. What does matter is that he considers himself in every way to be an American. He is proud of this country and thinks that if you aren’t, you are whole-heartedly encouraged to find one that suits you and move there.

The Angry Man is usually a man’s man. The kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, go hunting, play golf, maintain his own vehicles and build things. He coaches kid’s baseball, soccer and football and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, design a factory or work the land. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant so that you can keep the lights on while never knowing everything it took to do that. The Angry Man is the backbone of this country.

He’s not racist, but is truly disappointed and annoyed, when people exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their ethnicity. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they’re willing to work hard and play by the rules. He expects other people to do the same. Above all, he has integrity in everything he does.

The Angry Man votes, and he loathes the dysfunction now rampant in government. It’s the victim groups being pandered to and the “poor me” attitude that they represent. The inability of politicians to give a straight answer to an honest question. The tax dollars that are given to people who simply don’t want to do anything for themselves. The fact that, because of very real consequences, he must stay within a budget but for some obscure reason the government he finances doesn’t. Mostly, it’s the blatantly arrogant attitude displayed implying that we are too stupid to run our own lives and only people in government are smart enough to do that.

The Angry Man has reached his limit. When a social justice agitator goes on TV, leading some rally for Black Lives Matter, safe spaces or other such nonsense, he may bite his tongue but, he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.

But when government officials are repeatedly caught red-handed breaking the law and getting off scot-free, The Angry Man balls-up his fists and readies himself for the coming fight. He knows that this fight, will be a live or die situation, so he prepares fully. Make no mistake, this is a fight in which he is not willing to lose and he will never give up.

Obama calls him a Clinger.
Hillary Calls him Deplorable.
Bill calls him Redneck.
Feminists calls him Sexist.
ISIS calls him an Infidel.
Donald Trump calls him an American.

I suspect you might want to add the danger of another liberal Justice being added to the USSC.

Right.
Why weren't you allowed to keep your doctor?

Because they don't want to participate in the folly of obamacare......and don't take new patients....have retired...or changed careers.

Monthly premiums and deductibles are unattainable for middle class people.....so they opted out of obiecare BS.

There are so few choices where I live, that people have no medical plans and refuse to pay any fine...

Hopefully, this liberal wet dream will be flushed soon! I've never seen a liberal Democrat idea yet, that was ever worth a damn!

That alone...is huge! The last thing this country needs, is another Kagan or Soto.

While you are so focused on all that polling, don't forget to add the very accurate poll showing that Hillary won!!!!

Oh well, not really, but hey, the polls are never far off, right?

Oh, and I love you here freely expressing the left wing's fantasy world.

The old Trump ties with Russia meme

The undeniable impending economic implosion.

Bannon running a ministry of propaganda... hilariously stupid stuff... no offense but good lord man. If you ran polls, I mean truly accurate polls, just how many truly stupid things does the left still believe?

Like:

Hillary could still win through the recounts and/or the electors will choose Hillary,

If we protest, chant loud enough and burn flags and our own cities down, they gotta listen to us then, right?

Bannon is a white supremacist/white nationalist/antisemitic.

Real Fake news only comes from the right wing, ha ha ha... that has got to be a big one and one of my personal faves after so much lying, collusion and fake news put out by ALL the majors against Trump this election cycle.

Too too funny man. :lamo :2wave:

Did you lose your doctor of choice due to Obamacare?

Not me, I don't need to be concerned with obamacare....but some people I know, who are very close to me.... have.
One in particular had her premiums double, under obiecare and her deductible go from $2000 to $8000.

And after shopping for the best plan possible, that was it. Totally unacceptable! She has no medical coverage whatsoever now....and is saving $600 a month. On her income tax return she writes a note, I cannot find "affordable" health care, in my area.
**** all the politicians that voted to make obamacare law! It is one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in the history of this country.

If you believe all that tripe about Trump, you'd believe anything. I have never thought of CNN, Washington Post or NY Times as sources of the Truth. Not in the last 40 years!!!

They are sources of Lefty distortion and outright Lies!

Uh, hello? Have you seen who he's considering for Secretary of State?

The undeniable impending economic implosion.
Yes, we'll see how the economy turns out.

Bannon running a ministry of propaganda...
Yes, that actually does seem likely.

I will say that some of the concerns seem a bit overblown. I'd say we are much closer to Italy circa 2001 than Italy 1922. And yet, the concerns you cited don't seem all that outlandish.

Hillary could still win through the recounts and/or the electors will choose Hillary,
Yeah, I don't think a lot of people believe that.

If we protest, chant loud enough and burn flags and our own cities down, they gotta listen to us then, right?
So... you think that protest is pointless? Fascinating

Bannon is a white supremacist/white nationalist/antisemitic.
That's because, well... he kind of is.

Real Fake news only comes from the right wing
Fake news is on both the right and the left.

But so far, no leftists have fired an assault rifle in a crowded pizzeria in order to "self-investigate" an Alex Jones/alt-right driven conspiracy.

that has got to be a big one and one of my personal faves after so much lying, collusion and fake news put out by ALL the majors against Trump this election cycle.
Such as....
• He was caught on tape saying he was chasing a married woman, and could grab women's privates whenever he wanted and get away with it?
• That he bought cheap Chinese steel for his projects, and that his daughter's fashion company manufactures everything outside the US -- including those "MAGA" hats?
• That he refused to release his tax returns?
• That his campaign manager had taken Russian funds, funneled through Ukrainian pols, to lobby US politicians?
• That he has incredible conflicts of interest?
• That he is jeopardizing decades of diplomacy with China with a few phone calls and Tweets?
• That his foundation illegally distributed funds to benefit Trump himself?
• That he hasn't donated to his own foundation in years?
• That he was sued by the DoJ for housing discrimination against minorities?
• That he went bankrupt 6 times?
• That most of the businesses he runs himself have failed, and it is only slapping his name on buildings that actually works?
• That Trump University was a scam?
• That I could be here all day, with all of the things he's done that make him unfit for President?
• That he has reinforced that ineptitude and inexperience almost every day that he gets closer to the oath of office?

Oddly enough, I don't recall the mainstream media indulging in lots of fake news against Trump. Maybe a handful of stories were wrong, but there is such an avalanche of awful things he's done, and lies he's told, that I'm not surprised they got a few wrong.

She won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes, and counting. So the pundits weren't that far off.

The pundits were as incorrect on this as the polls were on Hillary.

You people are going to continue to cling to that misinformation until the proof is made public. Ok, I'll be patient. It will eventually.
I will right now state that Hillary got 5 million or more ILLEGAL VOTES from non citizens.
You can call it crazy, nonsense, a conspiracy or all those things. IDC.
It will not change the fact that one of the primary goals of the Obama whitehouse and his muppet masters was to overwhelm the Republican vote.
To do that, immigration was not lawfully checked during Obama's term. In addition, illegals were encouraged in MANY ways to do so. Through issuance of driver licenses, sanctuary cities and the Prez himself giving the wink wink nod. (yes he did. again...IDC what the deniers say)
I have family near the US border and they see firsthand the waves of illegals coming here and what has transpired over the last 8 years (or more) No it wasn't just Obama..

Hillary DID NOT win the popular LEGAL vote. In due time those in denial will be schooled on the fact that I was correct all along and they drank cool aid once again.
