Yup. Rights are a man-made concept, recognized, codified, and protected/enforced by an authority. Anyone can take your life or you can take anyone's. Same for other animals. There's only "legal" consequences if that right to life is recognized and protected or enforced by some authority.

Well I do believe that our rights are important, and our Const that protects them. I just dont latch onto unrealistic reasons for their origin.

I have to wonder if that's a serious question? But simply refer to the first 10 Amendments, aka the Bill of Rights. Our rights are enumerated in black & white. The SCOTUS interprets the Constitution regarding laws and their constitutionality.
