It makes fiscal sense that they would go easier if businesses are suffering. Trump has already acknowledged that these policies were affecting farmers and hospitality businesses by removing "very good, long-time workers" who are difficult to replace. Think now, slowly. Foreign travel agencies have noticed that we are enforcing our immigration laws. They've put out "advisories." It's estimated that a number of tourists will follow the warnings in those advisories. The drop in tourism revenue to American businesses is estimated to be about 8% this year. That will cause some loss in tax revenue to the country. A loss in tax revenue can be considered to be the equivalent of spending. Therefore, enforcing our laws will have two effects; (1), a drop in business income and tax revenue and (2) greater adherence to the law going forward. Since that loss of revenue is the cost of a positive change in our society, the lost revenue can be considered an investment in our future.Losing money is an investment?

No. I'm not going to spend my time doing an analysis of the number and types of crimes committed by visa overstays. We know, from Colorado, that some tourists commit crimes. Since a visa overstay can be anything from weeks to years, its a reasonable assumption that some of those people commit crimes.Gaius46 said:
